Traveling on a budget can be both fun and rewarding if you go about it the right way. Normally the word "budget" conjures up images of old hotels and terrible food but as many modern adventurers (both young and old) have found, low-cost travel offers the opportunity to experience places and things in a way few others can say they have. The blogosphere is full of information and ideas for those looking to experience the world on a budget and here I will review a few of the best online spots to help you plan your next journey.
It is hard to categorize this site as a simple blog seeing as though it's actually a community of budget travelers who share ideas and experiences with each other. Not only does the author of the site's blog offer basic travel advice and general thoughts or reflections, he also posts information about numerous overlooked topics such as book exchange, international taxation, international business and setting up a mobile office. Explore the blog for great information pertaining to adventure travel in the relatively unexplored parts of South America, Africa and Asia. This blogger has seems like he has been around the world and back and his writing is well worth an extended read.
A fairly new blog with great expectations, this site focuses much of its effort on providing information about the world of bare bones deep discount travel. Whether or not you plan to tackle a 60 hour ship journey to the Andaman Islands or travel around the world crashing on a couple hundred couches along the way, this blog offers information for all of those people who want a little more down to earth experience at their destination. Also check out the ever expanding guide to budget destinations. While limited in scope at this point, look for this blog to take off in the next few months as the author seems dedicated to regularly updating with quality content.
This blog is overseen by one of the most well-known news organizations in the world, so I'm sure you can imagine that only top quality budget travel content can be found here. As stated in the introduction, the goal of the blog is to find "...first class living at steerage prices". The author writes about his own experiences while also offering up a collection of ideas for your own trip. The blog offers great coverage of Europe but seems lacking in posts about other less known and less developed parts of the world.
