There are a wealth of beautiful Christmas light displays in the Sacramento area. Here are a few of them.

Holiday House
6425 Meadowhill Court
Carmichael, CA 95608
www.lightupxmas.com
Directions: Go North on Fair Oaks Blvd from Arden Way. Turn Right on Landis Ave, Turn Right on Deodar Street, Turn Left onto Meadowhill Court.
Hours: 6-9pm Sunday through Thursday and 6pm to 10pm on Friday and Saturday

This spectacular display, rivaling the Bellagio water show, is absolutely not to be missed. Although this is just one house, it's well worth a trip across town to see it. At first glance, it just seems to be a house with a lot of Christmas lights on it like you might find on any street. However, that's not all! During operating hours, music plays over the speakers and the lights dance in time to the music. The entire display is amazingly choreographed to every beat-you have to see it to believe it. To get the full effect, park your car and watch from the sidewalk. When you go, please take a can or two of food for creator Bob Bistrow's food drive for families in need.

Dovewood Court
Directions: Heading east on Greenback, turn right on Walnut (from Madison, turn left). The court is a couple of blocks down on the left.
www.dovewoodcourt.com

Dovewood Court is a destination for our family every Christmas. The entire court is decorated to the hilt in a variety of themes. M&M's, Disney, Jimmy Buffet's Christmas Island, The Grinch...the list goes on and on. While some people will drive, creeping along to allow time to see everything, I highly recommend parking and walking. You can usually find street parking within a couple of blocks in either direction. When you walk, you can look at some of the smaller displays up close. One house sets up a different winter scene every year in their garage and you have to get out of your car to see it. Music plays from several of the houses. Dovewood Court conducts a food drive for Food For Families, so please take some cans for the cause. Hours: 6-9pm Sunday through Thursday and 6pm to 10pm on Friday and Saturday.

Festival of Lights
Historic Downtown Placerville

530-622-8186, 672-3436
November 23, from 5:30-8pm

Historic Main Street will be cordoned off for this event, music, entertainment, Santa, stagecoach rides, Holly Jolly Trolley rides (to outlying parking lots), and tree lighting in front of the Courthouse at 6pm. Every year, Highway 50 through Placerville is lined with decorated trees, each by a different organization in its own theme. Old Town Placerville is always worth a visit, but doubly so at Christmas time and triply so during this event! The old-fashioned buildings are all strung with lights, there's a giant Christmas tree in middle of town, and there are costumed carolers roaming the streets. Get a ticket for the stagecoach ride around town. This is a fun outing for the whole family or just the two of you.
