One: The first idea is a craft that children of most ages can make for dad. It is a business card holder made out of craft or popsicle sticks (washed and dried thoroughly before use). This gift is great because he will be able to use it at his home or office desk to hold his business cards or other people's business cards that he would like to keep organized. It is also nice because the child can decorate it in a very personal way.
First you will need to gather your supplies. You are going to need ten craft or popsicle sticks, glue, poster paint in the colors you want to paint and decorate the card holder, a paint brush and any little craft items that would be relevant to the gift. For example, if dad is a golf fan and you are going to personalize it as such, you could get an actual golf tee and pon pon to put on top of that and glue them to the front of the holder. Or if he is a football fan and you find a great football button or felt pieces to create a football, or something pertinent to the specific team he likes, you could create a relevant design for the front of the card holder.
Next you will need to glue the sticks together. You want to glue them side by side in three different sets. The first set will be three sticks glued together. The second and third sets will each have four sticks glued together. Allow these to dry thoroughly before you proceed to the next step.
Once your glue sticks are completely dry you want to paint them in the colors you have chosen. Paint one side and let it dry and then paint the other side and allow to dry as well.
When the paint is completely dry you will need to place one set of the four glued-sticks flat on a hard surface. Put a line of glue completely along the bottom of the back of the long-edge of the sticks. Hold the remaining group of four sticks upright, horizontally (long-wise) to crate the back of the card holder. Repeat this process with the last set of glued sticks (the one with three sticks in it) on the front to finish the construction of the card holder. Allow to dry.
When the glue has dried and the project is secure decorate the front as you see fit. You can write or paint Happy Father's Day, or create the designs mentioned above, or any other design you deem fitting to represent dad or how you feel about him on the front. With a little imagination you can come up with just about anything pleasing and because the space is so small, you won't need a lot of resources to get it done.
Two: The next project for the business dad is a photo tie. If dad has to, or wants to, wear a tie to work every day, you can help to make it a fun experience by creating this project for him. All you need to do is find a picture that you think would work well on a tie. The picture can be printed as one photo or more commonly, it can be repeated many times in small squares on the tie. There are many places that do this, including online photo services and local supermarkets with photo departments. The price runs generally from $20.00 - $40.00 and this gift gives a new twist to an old favorite.
The third idea you might want to consider for the business dad is a pen holder. You can have one created through the photo service, like the tie in suggestion two if you want a professional looking one, or you can create one on your own with just a few items.
You will need a can with the top completely taken off. Make sure the edges are completely smooth before working on the project. This occurs by purchasing a can that is already beveled or having a grown up do the work. There can be absolutely no sharp edges on the can whatsoever or it will not work as a supply for making the project. You will also need contact paper to wrap around the can. For the decorations on the outside you will need glue and glitter, glitter pens, paint, stickers, etc. Anything you think will work to decorate the can in the manner that you want it to look. You also will need a new ball point pen and an unsharpened pencil.
Simply wrap the contact paper around the can. Make sure to smooth out all wrinkles and to ensure the ends meet at the seem flawlessly.
Now you are ready to decorate as you see fit. The ideas for this are as endless as you want them to be and with a little forethought and creativity can turn out quite spectacular. When the project is finished, add the pencil and pen so dad knows what it is used for (and he has a new pen and pencil) and the craft is now complete.
