Three Great Places to Find Online Literature Articles

There Are Resources for Quality Literature Articles Outside of the Library

There are many excellent resources for finding online literature articles for research and pleasure reading. Academic databases such as EBSCO, Academic Search Premier, and JSTOR are the best options, especially for peer-reviewed and scholarly literature articles, but unless you are in school or academia, these are restricted and often have very expensive subscription fees. There are, however, some resources for finding online literature articles that are open to public and offer high-quality content. These freely accessible and open sources for online literature articles include Project MUSE, which is affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University, Buzzle.com, and ArticleMyriad.com. All three of these resources offers a different caliber of writing and subject matter, but all three are great free and open resources for finding online literature articles.

Project MUSE is one of the best freely accessible sources for finding online literature articles that are of a scholarly or academic nature. These are, for the most part, peer-reviewed journal articles that are from non-profit organizations or some academic institutions. They are often written by academic professionals and are excellent for use on research essays or papers and make wonderful pleasure reading for those interested in the academic study of literature. The online literature articles at Project MUSE all have extensive references at the end which will help you find other sources, some of them at other places that offer online literature articles. Since there is no subscription fee and since you don't need to be affiliated with a university or professional organization to access these online literature articles, they make excellent resources for the general public or for those doing generalized research for a book or other project. There is a subset of online literature articles, as well as those on other topics, that are available through subscription only, but for the general reader, many are still freely available. By going through articles found at Project MUSE you can be sure you're getting reliable information since it is one of the most respected academic presses in the country.

Another great free resource for finding online literature articles of a less scholarly nature is at Buzzle.com. This site is great for the average pleasure reader or lower-level student looking for research material on literature. All of the online literature articles found at this site are written by qualified authors who have donated their material to the site. Unlike some other places offering online literature articles, these are, for the most part, free of grammatical, content, and other distracting errors and I think it's a great source for online literature articles for the pleasure reader. While I don't think I would recommend this site for use on college research essays or papers, it is fun for the armchair academic to go through on a rainy day and read a few free online literature articles. Certainly, the tone for these online literature articles isn't as scholarly as the ones you'll find at Project MUSE or scholarly journals, but again, it makes good reading.

Another place I've found for free online literature articles is a newer site called ArticleMyraid. This site has tons of online literature articles and also has rather extensive sections on other topics such as history, the arts, and philosophy. From what I can tell, this site is a collection of online literature articles that are written by a small staff of writers. Most of the online literature articles at this site utilize outside scholarly and academic sources and from what I can tell, are written by people that are very well-educated and well-versed on a variety of literary topics. Once I found ArticleMyriad.com I think I ended up spending about four hours on the site reading through their incredible selection of online literature articles before moving on to some of the other topics they have.

If you are a student looking for research material from online literature articles, I can only suggest that you go through your university library and check out the academic databases first since you can rest assured the majority of them are of a scholarly and peer-reviewed nature. However, for the online literature article enthusiast or younger student, these three resources will offer you a wealth of information that is informative and easy to read and learn from.
