Three Ideas for Eco Friendly Prom Dresses

Ann Siper
Eco friendly and go green are two of the most popular phrases around, so it is inevitable eco friendly prom dresses will become a popular choice this year. Eco friendly prom dresses are a great way to get in on the green movement and show your dedication to creating a green environment.

Here are 3 easy ideas for making your own eco friendly prom dresses:

Eco Friendly Prom Dress #1: Eco Friendly Fabric

Whether you are an avid seamstress or not you can buy eco friendly fabric and make a huge fashion statement wearing your own hand made eco friendly fabric dress. One of my favorite sources for a cool black 100% fabrics is Fabric Direct dot com.

They have a ton of other colors available as well in tier 100% recycled fabrics as well. Take a simple sewing pattern from Vogue Made Simple or even Sewing For Dummies and make your own dress. Many of these made too be simple dress patterns are basic simple dresses in classic styles!

You can make a sleek and simple dress out of recycled materials and get a ton of complements too!

Eco Friendly Prom Dress #2: Buy Local

So, many people buy local when purchasing foods, why not buy local when purchasing your dress. Is there a local green designer or local seamstress in your town? I bet you have at least one and probably more.

You can purchase your recycle fabric and plan with your seamstress or local designer on an appropriate prom dress. This is a great way to use that recycled fabric, parts of recycled thrift store dresses, or even remake a few of your existing dresses into something completely new.

Try taking your three favorite used dresses to the seamstress. Discuss simple additions and cuts that can be made to recycle yoru dress and make it look brand new again!

Eco Friendly Prom Dress #3: Swap With Friends

Swapping existing prom dresses with friends is an awesome way to cut down on waste by 100%! You can throw a get ready for go green prom party at your school. Try to get the whole class in on it.

Organize with your teachers to set up changing rooms, mirrors, and viewing areas to host a try on party. Girls can bring some of their slightly use prom dresses and swap with other students to get a "new" dress they have not worn before.

Parents will over this idea since it saves them a ton of money. You can your friends will be helping to preserve out environment, which is too cool!
