Three NL Fantasy Players to Drop: Soriano, Furcal and Pierre

Soriano, Furcal, and Pierre are Three Studs Turning to Duds

Marie Lowe
My top three National League fantasy studs that are turning to duds are

Alfonso Soriano, Rafael Furcal, and Juan Pierre.

First up is Chicago Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano.

Soriano got off to a great fantasy start, scoring a total 41 fantasy points in week 1,using the SportsBuff scoring style found at www.sportsbuff.com.

He belted four home runs, scored seven runs and knocked in seven runs that week.

Soriano has not come close to putting up those type of fantasy numbers since.

His second highest week came in week 5 when he managed 29 fantasy points.

Since then he has dropped as low as nine fantasy points scored in week 10.

A check of his stats shows that he has not had a multi hit game since May 17.

So far in week 11, Soriano has one fantasy point.

For the sake of Cubs fans, Soriano will get back to being a top fantasy player soon, but for now, he is a goat.

My next stud turning to dud is L.A. Dodger Rafael Furcal.

Furcal is one of my favorite all time fantasy picks. During the past 15 years, I have selected Furcal 101 times and he has produced 1,996.5 fantasy points for an average of just under 20 fantasy points per game.

This year Furcal is just a little off the mark and seems to be slightly dropping each week.

Furcal had his best week in week 2, scoring 22 fantasy points. Since then Furcal has struggled to break 10 fantasy points. He finished week 10 with 14 fantasy points, as he singled and three times.

So far in week 11, Furcal has put up three fantasy points, a double and a run.

It may or may not be a sign of things to come but as for me I have replaced Furcal with Yunel Escobar of the Braves.

My third stud going to dud is Juan Pierre of the L.A. Dodgers.

Pierre is one of my favorite all time fantasy players and I have been excited to see him get a chance to play in the absence of Manny Ramirez.

However reality is, Manny will return and Pierre will end back on the bench or on another team.

Pierre has made the most of his playing time, scoring 36 fantasy points in week six and he hit six singles or more between weeks 5 -9.

Through the years, I have selected Pierre 101 times and he has scored 1,949.5 fantasy points, an average of 19.3 fantasy points per game. He has beat that average four times this year.

But the last couple weeks decline has been peering around the corner for Pierre.

He managed 18 fantasy points in week 9 and only 13 in week 10.

Going into week 11, Pierre is still homer less, not that the Dodgers expect that from him, but they will of Manny.

Therefore before fantasy players can blink an eye, Manny will be back and Pierre will become another 4-10 fantasy point producer per week unless he is traded.
