Three Original Poems About Gardening

Barbara Neal
My Volunteer Garden

I love my volunteer garden
I've learned to hold it dear
The dewberries and dandelions
Come back every year.

The Worm Turns

The Earthworm earns his keep
Turning my compost heap
Into treasure while I sleep.

Then after he grants my wish
He helps me catch a fish
So I can live well on the cheap.

In Honor of Heirloom Seeds

Behold the lowly heirloom seed
The kind that Grandma sowed
When she had many mouths to feed
And many rows to hoe.

Behold the lowly heirloom seed
It's open pollinated
A remedy for corporate greed
Not copyrighted nor litigated

Behold the lowly heirloom seed
No GM labels here
It's DNA has been codified
By The Heavenly Bio-Engineer.
