Three Places in Albuquerque to Take Your First Date

Terri Beck
So you have finally taken a big step and asked that "certain someone" out on a first date. Now what? You do not want to be cheap or old fashioned. You are looking for something cool but not too expensive. If you happen live in or near Albuquerque then you are in luck. Albuquerque has lots of hidden gems that would be perfect for a first date.

Here are three fantastic locales that are just perfect for a first date. It does not matter if your date is male or female, young or old, everyone will enjoy these places.

Three Places in Albuquerque for a First Date

1. Albuquerque Biological Park

This place is so much fun! Unless your date is allergic to the outdoors they will love this place. There is so much to do and it won't break the bank. If you are lucky, you already have a membership. If not it still doesn't cost alot. Plan to spend the day there. This is my suggestion on what to do: First go to the Albuquerque Aquarium and purchase the aquarium/zoo combo pass. This will set you back about $12 a person and includes a train ride. Get there early because you can only purchase the combo pass from nine to noon. Explore the gardens first because they are always so romantic in the morning. Then head over to the aquarium. This is a pretty small aquarium and should take you about an hour to go through. On the way out, there's a lovely restaurant, I believe they call it The Shark Reef Cafe. Ask for a table by the giant aquarium. Here you can see all the sharks, turtles, and other sea life. If you drink, have glass of wine to relax the atmosphere a bit. After lunch head over to the train that will take you to the zoo. Then spend the rest of the day laughing and looking at the cute animals. Don't forget to check out the gift shops and make sure your date doesn't get hungry or thirsty. Make sure to check out the website for hours and location. www.cabq.gov/biopark/

2. Nob Hill

I love this area, there are so many little eclectic stores and restaurants. People may have different definitions of what entails Nob Hill, but I consider it to be from around Washington and Central to the UNM campus. There are shops and restaurants all around that area but if you stay on Central heading towards UNM it will be easy. You can find a parking spot, which can be a little tough, and just walk around. It's a really fun way to spend a day or evening on a first date in Albuquerque. There are clothing shops, furniture shops, record shops, restaurants and bars. If you and your date are up for it, head over to Popejoy Hall for a show. They've always got something interesting going on. Here's a website that should help you plan your date rt66central.com

3. Old Town

If you live in Albuquerque, I'm sure you've been to old town at least once. If not, then you must have been living under a rock! This is a great place for a first date in Albuquerque. They've got it all here! You and your date can walk around the plaza, make sure to visit the Rattlesnake museum. There's wonderful restaurants and you have to visit the Candy Lady. If you're date has a (dirty) sense of humor take her/him in the X-rated room. Be certain you know your date well enough, otherwise you better let your date lead you in there first or you might find yourself alone the rest of the evening! Whatever you choose to do there is lots of fun to be had in Old Town. They sometimes have special events going on in Old Town Albuquerque but you have to check around because it's not easy to find out when it's happening. Check out this link for some good info, however their events link doesn't seem up to date. www.albuquerqueoldtown.com

These are my best picks for a first date in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I chose these because that's where I'd take my date. I also chose them because of the variety. When you are on a first date the conversation can be a challenge sometimes. If there is a lot going on there will also be a lot to talk about. If you do find you and your date can't think of anything to say there is enough stuff going on and it won't matter that your not talking a whole bunch.

Have fun!
