Three Places to Take a First Date at the Jersey Shore

You've done the hard part, taken that leap and asked the all-important question, "will you go out with me?" Now comes the fun, the first date. But to make it a successful first date, one that might lead to a second, a little planning is in order. Here are the top three places to take a first date at the Jersey Shore.

If the weather is good, and you really hope it is, head for one of the many boardwalks that dot the Atlantic Ocean. From Cape May to Atlantic City, there are stretches of boardwalk in most island towns. The boardwalk in Avalon, NJ is one-half mile long and allows bicycling from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. every day. You can start your date with an early morning ride or walk and then head to Uncle Bill's Pancake House, 3189 Dune Drive. They have everything from buckwheat pancakes to Iowa corn pancakes to fruit-filled delights. Oh, and they have waffles and eggs too.

If you want to venture all the way to the end of the shore, down to Exit 0 on the Garden State Parkway, you can take your date for a stroll on the Washington Street Mall in Cape May. There are lots of cute shops and plenty of bars in this area so there is something to do day or night. The Pilot House on the corner of Decatur and Washington streets has the finest fried fish around, light and crispy and not the least bit oily. The dress code in all of the restaurants in the mall area is casual. If you want something a little fancier, and pricier, try the Zagat-rated Peter Shields Inn and Restaurant, 1301 Beach Drive. Here they have five distinctive dining rooms, two fireplaces, a cappuccino bar and spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Going to a casino in Atlantic City might seem like a sure bet, but your date could end pretty early if you don't have an unlimited amount of money to gamble with. Instead, take advantage of the beautiful Walk in Atlantic City, right at the foot of the AC Expressway. Here there are more than 60 outlet stores that fit the tastes and budgets of everyone. Parking is a little tough, so you should take a look at their online map to make a plan. There are some great restaurants in this area, including the unique Melting Pot, 2112 Atlantic Ave, which specializing in fondue. For something more traditional the Ruth Chris Steakhouse is right next door. No matter what your taste, you'll find something compatible at the Jersey Shore.
