Three Reasons to Hate Working at Home

Although I usually love working from home, every once in a while there are seven reasons I hate doing so. No matter how hard I try to set my boundaries and establish myself as a home business owner, some situations can hinder my progress. While acts of nature are completely understandable, others are definitely not. They require action from me in order to get the problem solve. Home business owners have to deal with multiple situations and people when working from home, but these unexpected issues can be solved quite easily with a little help.

Uncontrollable neighbors- During some instances when you are required to have no background noise and an extremely quiet environment, noisy neighbors tend to act up. Despite the fact that you do not own a pet, their dog starts barking extremely loud. As soon as you get off the phone, it stops. There are steps to take in order to bring this inconvenience to a stop. Politely inform the neighbors that your are running a business from your home and the uncontrollable noises are stopping your work progress. If they still continue to ignore your needs, then speak to the landlord. Don't feel guilty about complaining about the noise level. You deserve a stress free work environment just like everyone else.

Constant phone calls- Family and friends have a tendency to be overly chatty. Sometimes they think that working from home means that you have endless amounts of free time for them. They constantly call you on the phone and discuss the cutest tricks their pet has just performed. On rare occasions, they even skip the phone call and invite themselves over for a visit. The easiest way to solve this problem is to let them know that you have a set work schedule. If they insist on bothering you still, consider not answering the door or telephone. Eventually, they will understand that you are serious about your home business.

Bothersome Neighbors- Some neighbors are awesome and you have a wonderful relationship with them. Despite this fact, they can sometimes become a little too bothersome. They figure that you can stop your work schedule and accept packages for them. Once in a while is not a problem, but doing this every other day is a problem. Many people have the misconception that you are sitting at home watching television, chatting on the phone, and eating candy all day. The idea of work never enters their mind. Solving this issue means that you must be polite, but forceful when explaining that you cannot break your work schedule for such things. Just like they would not want anyone to constantly call them away from work at the office, you feel the same way.

Despite the occasional interruptions and mishaps, I still love working from home overall. If I can get others on the same page as me, then it would not be so stressful sometimes. Home business owners are not goofing off and having fun all day. We are hard working individuals that strive for the best just like others in the corporate world. The only difference from them and us is the environment.
