Three Reasons You Might Be Married and Dating

Rebecca Ammon
Couples all over the world are living the life of married but dating. It's a phenomenon that has been around for centuries, but rarely ever discussed. Those in a polyamarous relationship, dabble in the swinger lifestyle, or plainly cheat behind their partners back are obviously married and dating. But beyond those types couples, many others may fall into this category without even knowing. Do you fall into one of the three married and dating categories?

Work Spouse: Monday through Friday you date your work wife/husband. Morning coffee in the break room consists of discussions about last evenings happenings with this person. Daily lunches together at various eateries around town extends your conversation to a more date-like atmosphere. At times you even pay for the meal while other times he/she pays. You make sure during the day to find time for a bit of conversation and maybe even email or send text a quick message to see how the day is going. How long have you been dating this person?

Virtual Spouse: During the evenings while your real-life spouse is working late you surf the Internet hoping your chat buddy will be logged in again for your evening conversation. These conversations are sometimes about absolutely nothing and other times satisfying your need to unload the days events. Maybe you haven't ever met this person, but at times your imagination takes you on adventures that real life will never produce. These dates can become addictive and detrimental at the same time.

Sporting Spouse: Your athleticism has lead you to play each year for the local coed softball league. Tuesday through Thursday you are sweating it out next to your favorite player sharing the weeks events and the weekend pleasures. Your dates consist of sporting events and end of the season banquets, but resemble a form of socialization that bares mention.

Are you living the married and dating life? It seems to be happening to more people everyday as life seem to draw us away from home for longer periods and drive us towards other plains to satisfy basic mental needs. If you don't fall into this category just yet, don't be surprised when you find yourself there in the near future.
