Build Equity
Perhaps the first and foremost reason why you should buy a house is that you will be able to build equity. When you are renting an apartment you are wasting your money, paying for another person's mortgage. Even if the home that you buy is not your dream home, every month you pay your mortgage is money in the bank. The reason? As time goes by and the more payments you make, the less you will owe on your home. Likewise, over time the value of your home should appreciate, and you should be able to sell it for more than you purchased it for. When you finally decide to sell, you will leave with a larger down payment on your next property vs. renting where you wouldn't have anything.
Privacy
You will not have to worry about being quiet for the tenant that lives underneath of you, and likewise will not hear the loud people who live above you. If you have a yard then you will be able to go outside and have more personal space to yourself, whereas any outdoor space at an apartment complex is either communal or of limits.
Make your home look and feel the way you want
When you own your own home you will have the privacy to do whatever you please (within legal limits, of course). You will be able to make your home look and feel the way you want it to. You can paint the walls whatever colors you please, and do any other renovations that you would not be able to do at an apartment. If you do not like the lighting fixtures you will be able to replace them, along with any other hardware in your home. If you get tired of your kitchen and think that it looks ugly you can gut it and have a new one installed. The options are limitless and there is a whole television channel HGTV that is devoted to giving people ideas for home improvements.
What are you waiting for?
Now that you have several reasons that you should own your own home rather than renting, what are you waiting for? Speak to a real estate agent or conduct be your own agent, and start looking for a home to buy!
