Where to get something to eat on Christmas
Since the luxury hotel called the Umstead Hotel and Spa came to town, the people of Cary have had a new place to get a great meal. This is one of the few restaurants in the Triangle to offer a breakfast menu. Surprisingly, the breakfast starts at 6:30 AM. For those that get up at 5 AM to open presents this could be really right on.
Max's kids always enjoyed walking through the ornate hallways of hotels like this just to get breakfast. For those of us who may not be able to afford this kind of lavish pampering, a meal, any meal, at a wonderful hotel like this may be a very special treat.
Located near SAS off Route 40 exit 287 and Campus Drive which is just of North Harrison Avenue. The Umstead Hotel is easy to find.

If you are in the mood for Asian cuisine, you could not find a better place than the Neo- China Restaurant for dinner. The restaurant has a reputation for outstanding food. Max agrees that his personal experience leads him to believe this is a well deserved reputation.
The service at Neo-China results in an enjoyable and satisfying experience. This is true for lovers of Asian food. If you have small children the next restaurant may be a better fit.
Neo-China is very much a sit down affair. Max would recommend this for families with teenagers or smaller children that have shown a love for Asian food.
His own experiences with his children have taught him that it is unwise to experiment with food tastes if you plan a special dinner. It is better to go with what you know the kids will like. The adults will have a much more enjoyable time.
This is a great restaurant that those who love Asian food will love.
This restaurant can be found at:
Neo-China

Open: 4:30pm to 10pm for dinner
Luckily two wonderful Mexican restaurants will be open on Christmas Day. They are both members of the same chain. Max likes Mexican food. He also has always liked Mexican restaurants when his children were small. He had three children going through three different sets of taste buds.
Mexican restaurants have always had such a diverse set of foods that the children could find something they could eat. Even now Max has a grandson whose favorite food is tomato slices dipped in hot sauce. Mexican is the place for kids.
When we have a lot of small children, we do a lot of sharing. Some like the rice, while other children like the beans. Still others like being allowed to eat the chicken with or without the taco with their fingers. For the children, lunch or dinner is just one big special party.
For the adults, it is a time where my wife and I and my adult children don't have to spend time correcting anyone. Freedom for the kids is freedom for the adults. We do ask for extra napkins; a lot of extra napkins.
If this sounds like it is for you this restaurant can be found at:
Torero's Restaurant
1207-C Kildaire Farm Road
Cary, NC 27511
Tel: (919) 468-8711
Open: 12 noon to 8 PM for lunch and dinner
If you find these restaurants don't meet your needs, you can follow the links at the end to restaurants in the nearby towns.
Max wasn't able to call all restaurants in the area. If you are near a hotel with a restaurant, they are often open. The difficulty with hotels is that they may be short staffed for the day. This can mean long waits.
Twenty four hour restaurants and Asian food restaurants may be open locally, but this can be a very hit and miss situation. Max ate at a local Waffle House one Christmas with his wife. The restaurant at the hotel they were staying at in RTP had let the student waiters go home for the holiday and there was no one to cook or serve the guests.
Merry Christmas!
