"Desperate Housewives" has the qualities that define many soap operas. A central emphasis on family, sexual dramatics, moral and emotional conflict, and the storyline focuses on the day-to-day activities and personal lives of these very characters.

U.S. soap opera characters are typically attractive, rich, and ultra glamorous. Not that "Desperate Housewives" is strictly soap opera material. The show creator does a fine line of staying in the dramedy genre, also known as comedy-drama. Dramedy is when there is an equal balance of serious content and humor.

Here are the five best shows to watch if you love "Desperate Housewives" :

"One Tree Hill" has entered its eighth season with over 150 episodes to its credit. Brooke Davis has now found the love of her life in Julian. She also has a successful career as a fashion designer and she's young and beautiful. Nathan Scott has come full circle with a successful career as an NBA MVP and a loving family. When his career is harmed by a back injury he makes an important chance, for the sake of his family. His wife, Hailey makes a difference helping artists record albums, and currently spends her time helping others on a suicide hot line. "One Tree Hill" documents the lives of the childhood crew who have grown into successful parents and adults. Though true-to-life the characters are still growing and making changes to be who they really want to be. The show also documents real life moments of change, hope, and important moments where the cast makes an impact in the lives of others. This show is lovable in every way. The cast, much like "Desperate Housewives" is lovable, dramatic, and make significant changed in the lives of others.

"90210" - This comedy, drama, and romance is very much like "Desperate Housewives," in fact though the characters are much younger the storyline is much the same. The rich, beautiful, and glamorous deal with day-to-day living, family members that are far from perfect, and romance that never seems to stay long enough. Starring Shenae Grimes, AnnaLynne McCord, Jessica Stroup, Jessica Lowndes, and Tristan Wilds. The storyline began when a Kansas family relocates to Beverly Hills, their children have to adapt to Beverly Hills High. They deal with uber rich kids, family troubles, and see that just because people are wealthy, that doesn't make them happy. "90210" was created by Rob Thomas and Darren Star. Although the characters are younger than those of "Desperate Housewives", they live the same lives, just in different ways. By the end of each episode the show reveals that while on the surface the characters "seem" to have it made, they are for the most part regular people who often deal with way beyond normal problems.

"Gossip Girl" - The ultra chic and glamorous deal with daily ups and downs of a charmed life. Again, like "90210", the characters may be younger, but the story line is of similar cloth. This one-hour drama reveals the lives of Manhattan's young and beautiful elite. Currently on season 4 the show is picking up extra heat, delivery, and unforgettable but totally lovable scandal. Leighton Meester stars as queen bee extraordinaire Blair Waldorf, Blake Lively as Serena van der Woodsen, Chace Crawford as Nate Archibald, and Ed Westwick as playboy Chuck Bass. This TV series is based on Cecily von Ziegesar's young-adult hit books series. Just seeing the love-hate relationship between Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf makes for sensationally hot and totally watchable TV.

All three shows can be found on The CW network on Monday and Tuesday nights. You don't want to miss shows like this that are not only glamorous but make a significant impact on today's society.
