Three Small Poems

Granddaughter and Son; Mutual Blues; Untitled

granddaughter and son

already you have that look in your eye,
nearly a year old,
you will have whatever you wish
beginning now
with my smile watching you crawl
when we want you to sit
and your own smile
returning cries to silence
when daddy takes you up
in his arms again

Mutual Blues

I consider blue
the blue of sky
all the blue
of sky

Soon lose
myself
in the warm
under me

By candle light
what I am not
so nestled
in darkness

Where was it
we realized
this goes on
things always
change

~

untitled

You divide me
more than I am
already divided
and give to me
what I can't have
by any fullness
other than
this division.

Imagine skin
a parable,
its movement
waves, particles
in motion. The
sea's surge is
nothing like it;
the saltwater
poses as sweat,
wants to be sweat,
is divided in itself
as I am in my
imaginings.
