Three Stabbed Outside of Night Club in Dallas' Deep Ellum

Red Blood Club Lives Up to Its Name

Around 1 a.m on November 12, three men were stabbed outside of a Dallas, Texas, night club. The Red Blood Club, located in Dallas' nationally re known 'Deep Ellum' on 2617 Commerce St. Dallas, TX 75226 has seen its first violent display since it opened three months ago and it has been said to be a low-key neighborhood bar in 'Deep Ellum'.

This incident may be the final blow to bring down the newly established night club which has been cleared for approval of the new specific use permit needed by all 'Deep Ellum' night clubs to continue their operations.

Dallas police reported that the fight was said to be "gang related." The fight started when one man was kicked out of the bar for violent intentions, he then came back into the bar a short time later with said another man and the two men began fighting with the night club's front door employee. The stabbing victims were all taken to Baylor University Medical Center, just four blocks away from the night club. Their conditions are still pending unknown.

William Walters, 29, of Fort Worth, Tx and Daniel Barfield, 41, of Royse City, Tx were both arrested a short time later in South Dallas. Both men were being held in Dallas County jail (Lew Sterrett Correctional Facility), according to Dallas County Police Officals.

Mr. Walters was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and Mr. Barfield was charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, according to Dallas County Police Chief, Margaret Keliher.

Brad Garrett, co-owner of the Red Blood Club, said that "he is worried the incident could affect the Dallas City Council's decision whether to approve the bar's specific-use permit which is required by every bar in the neighborhood by December 1, 2007." "The first thing I thought when this happened was, 'Oh my God, this could be worst thing possible for the club and everyone,' " Mr. Garrett said. "Of course, tomorrow, I'm going to get on the phone and try to basically get things all cleared up, hopefully," Mr. Garrett concluded.

In this reporters' opinion, 'Deep Ellum' needs to step up its law enforcement or more innocent people are going to get injured and/or killed on any given night. In recent weeks, 'Deep Ellum' has been plagued by gang related violence. One incident took place one week ago at Club Seven and now the Red Blood Club, in which both bars are only located about one block from each other.

The real question, will the new specific use permit proposal actually lower the 'Deep Ellum' crime rate or will it just "mask" the night clubs as labeling them that are ultimately approved as "safe." In my opinion 'Deep Ellum' is more dangerous than any other part of Dallas County, Tx.
