Three Storylines to Watch This 2009 NFL Season

Here Are Three Storylines that Will Have Your Mouth Watering While Waiting for the 2009 NFL Season to Begin!

1) The return of Tom Brady from season-ending injury last year.

Tom Brady has fallen off the radar due to his season-ending injury last year, but now he's back. It is amazing that a player like Tom Brady could even fall off the radar. Regardless, Brady and the Patriots are poised to make yet another Super Bowl run. The Patriots are definitely Super Bowl contenders this season, although it has been quite some time since they have last won (2005!). The prolific offense we saw two years ago will be reunited and I would bet that they are going to put up similar numbers from that historic season two years ago. The Patriots organization personifies how an NFL team should be run, and with Brady back there's no telling what's possible.

2) The signing of Brett Favre by the Vikings.

After coming in and out of retirement on multiple occasions over the past couple of years, it does not surprise me that Brett Favre has reclaimed his most recent retirement announcement and has finally signed with the Minnesota Vikings. Brett Favre obviously isn't a long-term investment for the Vikings. The goal of the Vikings is to make a Super Bowl push now. The Vikings arguably have the best running back in the game and a mean defense to boot. And a veteran quarterback like Favre can only help right? We'll just have to wait and see, but reports are stating that the signing of Favre has created a "schism" in the Vikings locker room, whatever that means. We are all aware of Favre's likable personality and he will most likely mend this "schism" by the start of the season. Favre certainly has the resume and talent to take the Vikings far.

3) The signing of Michael Vick by the Eagles.

The recent reinstatement of Michael Vick into the NFL is a topic of much controversy. Some felt he didn't deserve reinstatement after the heinous crimes he committed; others felt he did his time and paid his dues. I'm not going to pick a side, but rather I'm interested in what he can potentially provide for the Eagles on the field. The Eagles have a great team this year and Michael Vick can really push them over the top. I mean, two of the most athletic quarterbacks in the game, McNabb and Vick, on the field at the same time is just electrifying to think about. Opposing defenses are currently scrambling to create effective strategies against the new McNabb and Vick duo. The negative aspect of signing Vick is that he could possibly create a distraction for the Eagles organization, hurting their chances of a legitimate Super Bowl run. They were Super Bowl contenders before signing Vick, so why risk hurting their chances?

So there you have it. Three of the top storylines for this upcoming 2009 NFL season. I would hardly be surprised if one or two of these quarterbacks find their way to Miami come February.
