Three Surprising Ways to Get Healthy Glowing Skin

Ayanna Guyhto
Sure, there are tons of products on the market designed to help your skin achieve or maintain a healthy glow. This is the glow that is most often ascribed to youth. But that concept isn't exactly fair. For women of all ages can display the radiance of healthy skin. The trick is in understanding this incredibly important organ (the largest in the body)-instead of just slathering a host of expensive products on top of it. Here are some surprising ways to encourage the glow that gets you noticed.

Prenatal Vitamins

Ok, so this one isn't necessarily a revelation. Plenty of women who are not pregnant (or hoping to become pregnant) rely on these vitamins to give their bodies a boost in a few ways. Known mainly for promoting healthy nails and hair, prenatal vitamins are essentially multivitamins. The major difference is that they are more heavily concentrated with the kinds of nutrients that expectant mothers need. Iron is one nutrient you'll find a healthy dose of; an increase in iron can help keep your skin acne free; an increase in iron will also help your skin to rebound more quickly from minor infections or injuries. Vitamin A helps to reduce wrinkles. And some prenatal vitamins include an omega-3 fatty acid, which helps to prevent dry skin. Suffice it to say, if you pop one or two prenatal vitamins on a consistent basis - you should see "glowing" results.

Sex

Many medical professionals agree that sex is a great way to keep that glow affixed to your skin (as if you needed another reason to engage in this rewarding activity.) Vigorous sex encourages sweat; sweating helps to release toxins from the skin. Remove the toxins - get the glow. Additionally, it has been proven that the release of endorphins during sex can also encourage the production of collagen - the stuff that keeps your skin firm and tight. In short, it is the collection of signals that the brain sends to the skin that cause a flushed appearance. Have plenty of (healthy) sex, and a radiant complexion is sure to follow.

Steam Sauna

But there are indeed other ways to sweat. Hop into a steam room or sauna for approximately 30 minutes, and you will not only feel - but also see positive results in your skin. Sweating, in and of itself, is good. But there is a lot more going on underneath the skin's surface. First of all, you will achieve the benefits of better blood circulation, a definite plus. But it is the detoxification process that appears to make the most difference in your skin. The intense heat of a sauna helps to kill bacteria, parasites, and even some viruses. Ordinary sweating may be good for you. But the intense sweating that you will experience in a sauna actually helps to "rinse out" your pores. Combine this intense treatment with your daily beauty regimen, and you will definitely have skin that gleams.
