Three Tips for Using Rattlesnake Traps

If you live in an area inhabited with rattlesnakes, you certainly don't want them in or around your home. If you spot one, trapping and releasing is a humane alternative to killing it. This article will give you a few tips for using rattlesnake traps.

Location

The location that you place rattlesnake traps is very important. You should know that snakes like to crawl along walls or fences instead of out in the open space. Therefore, you should place the trap lengthwise against the wall.

It's also important to note that snakes are cold-blooded, so they need a source of heat. If you're looking to capture a snake inside your home, then you should consider putting the trap near a heat source. Common places include furnaces, freezers, refrigerators, and water heaters.

Den

If you're trying to capture a snake outside, then it's best to locate its den. The den will likely have multiple openings. You should block all of these openings except for one. This way, you can place the trap in a location the snake will be forced to use.

Once you have blocked most of the openings, you should put down a funnel-type rattlesnake trap. Drift fence should be put on both sides of the trap so that you can route the creature into it.

Glue

One of the most effective types of rattlesnake traps is the glue trap. You can make you own big enough for a snake by putting glue mouse traps together. Be careful when using glue traps outside since the elements will break them down quickly.

After you have captured a rattlesnake in a glue trap, it's very easy to release him. You can easily break down the glue by pouring vegetable oil over the snake and the trap. It's best that you release it at least one mile away so it won't return.

These are a few tips for using rattlesnake traps. If trying to capture one inside your home, you should put the trap against the wall. If hunting for one outside, try to locate its den so you can block off openings and route it into a funnel-type trap.
