Three Top Choices for Happy Hour in Austin

Get Your Happy Hour On!

Paige Nieto
One of the best things about the work day is the Happy Hour you can go to with you friends (or co-workers) after an exhausting day at the salt mines. You may be wondering where to go if you've never been to one or if you are looking to spice up your Happy Hour lifestyle. Here are some places you may want to try on your next night out.

Third Base--this sports themed bar located in Round Rock off of Louis Henna and is a great place to hang out. They boast daily specials including Mexican Night on Wednesday where they offer $2.50 Bottle/Can Mexican Beers, $2.50 for a 12 oz Dos XX (add a dollar to that and you can get the 22 oz), and $3.00 for Margaritaville Rita's on the Rocks. They also have a decently long Happy Hour; it takes place from 4-8 pm. with $2.00 for Domestic Bottles and Well Drinks. Since it a sports bar they do show sporting events so if you and your friends are sports fanatics this may be the perfect place for you to try out on your next Happy Hour. Third Base also offers a well rounded menu, giving you plenty to munch on as you knock back a couple of drinks.

Of course, a true Austin staple is Trudy's, home of the famous Trudy's Mexican Martini. Many people frequent Trudy's simply because of their Mexican Martini, reputed to the best in the Austin area. Their Happy Hour is a staggering 2-7 pm, Monday-Friday (although it is not offered on National Holidays) as well as daily specials, including Mexican Martini Mondays as well as a fairly priced menu with an array of Mexican food and daily specials. There are three locations in the Austin area, located Central, North, and South. Pick one the one that is the nearest to your area and go have fun and enjoy the atmosphere and ambiance as well as the drink specials.
*Special Note: Trudy's does limit you to two Mexican Martinis because they are so strong so be careful and be sure to have a Designated Driver or someone pick you up should you choose to imbibe on this particular libation. *

Then there is the Kona Grill, which is one of my personal favorites. What I like about this restaurant is that not only do they have the traditional Happy Hour Monday-Friday from 3-7 pm, but they also have a (get this) reverse Happy Hour that 9-11 pm Monday-Thursday and 10-12 am Friday-Saturday. So if you can't make the first Happy Hour you can always go to the later one and still partake in the Happy Hour specials which include items from $3.00 on select sushi rolls to $5.00 pizzas. Drink specials include discounted prices on such drinks as margaritas, Apple-tinis, and Sake bombs. However in order to partake in the Happy Hour at the Kona grill you must sit in the patio or lounge area so you may be waiting for awhile to sit down as it does tend to get crowded being located smack in the middle of the Domain a shopping center located off Mo-Pac. However it is worth the wait because they have fantastic sushi rolls and you have the option of walking around (and shopping!) if you need to sober up a little before you drive home. Plus once you sit down you can stay for as long as you like (which also adds to the waiting issue when you choose this venue).

So there you have it; there are three great places in the Austin/Round Rock area to go for an enjoyable Happy Hour. No matter where you go please remember to either designate a safe driver, have cash for a cab, or have a loved one pick you up; that way you can drink a little more and arrive at your destination safely.

Opal Devine's is a good place too. They have a misting system around the deck & allow people to bring their well behaved dogs, if you're out on the deck.
