Three Top Freeware Programs: RenameMaster, Text Tally and MyUninstaller

Dee Jones
We all know about the big-ticket software programs, like word processors, media players, web browsers, and HTML editors. But what about the smaller programs? The ones you don't know you need until you need them. Or the ones you don't know you need until someone tells you about them.

Here are three small but powerful freeware programs that do things you probably rarely think you need done. But once you have them and start using them, you won't be able to remember how you ever did without them.

Rename Master: A Free File Renamer

If you've ever had the change the names of a large batch of files, you know how tedious and time consuming it can be.

I often find myself having to rename files in batches of 20, 50, or even 100. Which is why I'm glad I found Rename Master.

Rename Master is a freeware program that will allow you to alter file names with ease. You can change the names of a batch of files, add words to a dozens of file names, give a group of files the same name but a different identification number, change the extensions on dozens of files, and much more, all in seconds.

What I really like about RenameMaster is that it's a freeware program. This means you don't have to install it in order to use it. Just start the application, and you're ready to go.

Text Tally: A Free Word Counter

There are often times when you need to know the amount of words there are in a document. Some programs, like Microsoft Word, come with this feature already built in. But others don't.

You could always move the document to Microsoft Word. But why bother when you can just use Text Tally.

Text Tally is a free word counter. To use it, all you have to do is highlight the words you want counted and click "copy." Open Text Tally, and the word count will be given to you instantly. Text Tally will also tell you how many characters and the number of lines there are in a document.

MyUninstaller: Uninstall Programs with Ease

I admit it. I install more programs on my computer than I probably should. There's just so much freeware out there, and I can't resist trying it out.

Of course, a lot of the freeware turns out not to be so great, so I end up uninstalling it again.

Windows comes with its own program that will remove installed software. But I find MyUninstaller to be faster and, for me at least, easier to use.

And, like RenameMaster, MyUninstaller is a stand-alone program, meaning you don't have to install it to use it.

Yes, I think the fact that an uninstaller doesn't have to be installed a little ironic. And it means you'll have one less program cluttering up your computer.

There you have it. Three freeware programs you probably never thought about needing. But, once you start using them, you just might wonder how you ever did without.
