Three Winter Olympians to Follow on Twitter

These Three Winter Olympians Are Strong Contenders for Gold in Vancouver

Carly Hart
The 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver begin approximately two weeks. Now is the perfect time to get some Olympic insider information by following your favorite 2010 Winter Olympians on the microblogging site Twitter. Which Winter Olympians should you be following on Twitter now and as they make their way to Vancouver?

Apolo Ohno

Olympics fans should follow Apolo Ohno, 5-time Olympic medalist because he is going to make an attempt to smash Bonnie Blair's medal count to surpass her as the most decorated American Winter Olympian in history. This short track skater will be one to watch as he tries to win at least two more medals to beat Bonnie Blair's record. The media will be focused heavily on Ohno, just as they were on Michael Phelps. Americans will be glued to their television to see if Apolo Ohno can pull it off, cheering him all the way. Apolo Ohno has 41,000 Twitter followers, including myself, who already know that he's an Olympian to follow in Vancouver.

Rachel Flatt

Though she's just 17, figure skater Rachel Flatt has nerves of steel. Nicknamed "Reliable Rachel," she is going to be one to watch at the Vancouver Winter Olympics after recently winning the 2010 Championship in Spokane, Washington. She's off to the Vancouver Winter Olympics after smashing the record set by Sasha Cohen in 2006. In addition to training for the Olympics, she has been taking AP classes and "Got another semester of A's" according to a recent tweet. She's a competitor all around, and I expect to see a medal hanging around her neck in Vancouver.

Shaun White

This shaggy haired redhead is the king of the half pipe. Having won Olympic gold in Torino, Shaun White has his eyes on the prize in Vancouver. Fans of Shaun White can expect him to execute and land a double-cork, which is two off axis flips. The double-cork is expected to be the gold standard in Vancouver and Shaun White is one of just a few half pipers who can land it. His tweets are lively, and he often includes twitpics of himself and what he is tweeting about, which really show his personality. Followers won't find many boring, self-promotional tweets from him. Shaun White has over 90,000 followers on Twitter, which is sure to skyrocket as soon as he hits the half pipe in Vancouver.
