1. Shampoo. Ok, it irritates you that your sister still borrows your shampoo. That doesn't mean you take revenge and give her a bottle of shampoo for Christmas! 2. Clothes. Unless you're shopping for your best friend who shares the same style, stay away from this gift choice. It is an easy way to earn the reputation of the person who gives the worst Christmas presents. You may think your daughter loves the color purple and wears it often. You think buying her a purple top is totally safe. She may like wearing purple, but that doesn't mean she will like the gaudy purple top you wouldn't mind wearing yourself! Stay away from giving clothes or risk acquiring the infamous reputation of giver of bad Christmas presents! Give gift certificates for clothes instead; a much safer choice.

3. A gift you like yourself. If you're at least thirty years older than your gift recipient, do not assume they share your taste or style. Making this sad assumption will assure bad Christmas presents and unhappy recipients! There are three decades between you; maybe more! Just like you both share different opinions, chances are you share different taste too!
