Three Years Old and Counting

James R. Ford
I've been walking now for over two years
sometimes walking into walls
sometimes falling down the stairs

The backyard seems huge
I have to watch where I walk
so I don't step into any dog stuff
that squishy brown goo smells bad
and makes Mom gag
when she cleans it up
between my toes

The day is pretty much mine
I wander inside and out
Peaches, my dog and favorite buddy
follows me everywhere
he eats every single thing
that falls from my hands
last week, he ate a crayon

Mom is always on the phone
she talks a long time to everyone that calls
then I'm hoisted into the big green car
where I can watch Elmo on the dvd
until my eyes shut off

I cry sometimes for no reason
don't know what that's about
it's just that a lot of stuff bothers me

Later, Dad will come home from work
we'll eat food, maybe have some ice cream
the ice cream knocks me out
and next thing you know it's tomorrow

It's really tough being a kid
I hope my new baby sister
doesn't have to go through this.

Thanks for all comments. Thought I'd have some fun, so I sort of wrote this one from the perspective of a three year old.

Adorable! One day must seem to go on forever for a three year old! ;-)
