Despite the years of bad press this artist has received my favorite 80's album is still Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album. I was just a young boy when my aunt gave me her copy of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" on vinyl because she had upgraded to a cassette copy. This album was my first taste of rebellion in my house, my parents hated it for many reasons, he was black, it was a pop rock album, and it inspired me to sing and dance which was a major no-no in our small Baptist community.
To this day the funky driving drum beat and killer guitar riff of the song "Beat It" still makes my toes tap. Years later I was playing in a rock and heavy metal band and we where brain storming for a cover song to spice up our set I demanded we do a metal rendition of "Beat It" which quickly became our most popular cover song in our live performances.
The "Thriller" album for it's time was the best selling album, and still remains to be a well written and produced piece of pop and rock history. With songs like "Billy Jean", and "The Girl Is Mine" featuring Paul McCartney from the Beatles and Wings fame. The title track "Thriller" was up beat and for it's time it had a spooky zombie filled video that MTV played non-stop.
I still have my original vinyl copy of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album and plan to hold onto it for many more years even though Michael Jackson has been accused of several allegations which I won't get into here. This record remains to be my all time favorite album and still brings back great childhood memories.
