Thriller Novels-Why You Should Read Them

I have been reading thriller novels from the time I was in high school. I love to read them for the thrill, suspense, romance and all around imagination. These books take me to another level in terms of wanting to know what is going to happen. Thrillers take me to places that I have never been all over the world and most importantly the characters are driven in this genre. Character driven thrillers written by the likes of John Grisham, Lisa Gardner, and James Patterson are enough to keep you on the edge of your seat and making sure you do not fall off.

Characters in a thriller are essential because of the conflict, the villain of the story and because of the settings. Settings and characters of thrillers must be vivid, have some since of happening as well as authority over their lives but at the same time, are also involved in a major problem. And in the thrillers' case, the problems that arise are more than likely caused by some copycat serial killer or that long lost jealous brother or stalker who wants it all and will do nothing at stopping to get it.

Thrillers must grab you by the first sentence. I have cruised through my favorite bookstores, big and small alike and came across top notch covers, titles and authors if you will, but I look for the first sentence to make me want to read the whole book. That first sentence must let me know what the big problem is going to be throughout the book or else there is no reason to read it. Sometimes the first sentence can involve a question. Those too, need to grab a reader by first instinct because the reader will want to know why. This then leads to the conflict of the hero or heroine or it can be reversed as to the villain seeking out their prey in the very beginning. This lets the reader know that they had better grab a cup of their favorite drink and get ready to be engaged in some electrifying reading.

Thrillers that take you to another country leave extra storage in one's imagination. It is enticing to read that someone is being chased or chasing something from the deep alleys of lower Manhattan all the way to Monaco and then to the enormous valleys in Switzerland where life is rich, grand, and endearing. Trust is a main factor in a thriller novel, because nine times out of ten, the main character trusts a person so close, that that person turns out to be their worst enemy.

Reading a thriller novel is unlike watching a movie because of the concept, the education and being able to discuss the novel with friends who share the likes of this genre. Thrillers can fit into any sub-genre such as action-adventure, legal, medical, historical and even science-fiction. Writers that fall into those categories are Lee Child, David Baldacci, Tess Gerritsen, Brad Meltzer, Clive Cussler and the most infamous one of all who specializes in military espionage, Tom Clancy.

Thrillers can give readers history lessons as well as provide safety and awareness. Safety due to the criminal minded that do exist in the real world and awareness of how victims in the real world really feel when caught in a traumatic and deadly web of danger. I read thrillers because of the trueness to them, the intensity of the characters and most of all, because they fall into any sub-genre that an author chooses as its setting to surround the entire story around. These authors take serious time and effort in their research to make sure that one is spending a good seven to twenty-five bucks on a read that is bound to stay imbedded in one's mind for a long time to come.
