Throw Your Dad the Ultimate Father's Day Party
When it Comes to Father's Day Party Ideas Stay Away from the "frill" and Go for the "THRILL"
Most people think party they automatically think one of 2 things. Uncomfortable family gathering with little to no excitement, or Frat party with too much excitement and not enough quality. The best way to remedy this is to see past the word party, and focus on your dad. These ideas will work for any one in a fatherly role. Fathers, step-fathers, grandfathers, uncles, foster dads, expectant fathers, and those really close family friends that have become like a father to you; no matter their "title" they all deserve to celebrate the day!
First thing you need to ask yourself is what kind of dad do you have? There are a lot of categories that "dads" can fall into but for this I mean more like what are your "dad's" weaknesses. Is he a sports lover? An outdoors man? A tech guy? A movie buff? Or perhaps, he's a do-it-all dad? The trick is to find out what your dad truly enjoys when he's not working, raising kids, or keeping mom happy.
Once you know the dad addiction that has a hold, plan a party based on the things he loves. For the "Sports dad" try to based the party around the multitude of events that will be available that Sunday. If you can't get tickets to the game (race, match, etc...) then think super bowl party! There are plenty of great on line retailers to get sports gifts. And I'm sure if you let mom in on it she'll help get the snacks, or get dad's buddies over. Depending on which sport has dad's attention will depend largely on what happens next.
If he's a race fan visit NASCAR.com get the official times and channels for the race, and while there you can get links to the nascar superstore, or this favorite driver's official site for the perfect gift Ideas. If he is a football man, check out NFL.com for team happenings and links to their plethora of team specific items dad will enjoy. Same can be said for the golf dad, hockey dad, baseball dad, soccer dad, & basket ball dad. No matter what sport your dad loves there are great sites specialized to not only the sport but the team dad loves to support.
Got an outdoor dad? Would he rather be hunting, fishing, camping, or just plain out enjoying the weather? Then think outdoor BBQ, or weather permitting, take him on a camping or fishing trip. Speaking from personal experience, my grandfather is an outdoor dad! Nothing would brighten his day more than some new fishing gear, and a season pass to one of his favorite national parks or campgrounds. Places like Dicks Sporting Goods, and Bass Pro Shops, have a wonderful selection of goodies for your outdoor dad. Get him some new camo, or a new rod and reel.
The tech dad can be difficult, but they can also be really easy. Does he spend more time on his computer than you do? Can he beat you at your favorite video game? Do you turn to him for advice on the newest mp4 players, video cameras, cellphones, and gps systems? Then he definitely fits this category. For the "gaming dad" (and I know quite a few of these) Throw a Father's day gaming tournament! Plug in the PS2, X-box, Nintendo Wii, or whatever gaming system you may have and have a blast! Have mom or dad's buddies, set up a full out competition atmosphere roster and all. and play until a champion is named! ( mind you if dad is named champion it's even better..hint hint)
For Father's Day tech gifts I recommend not busting your budget if you can help it. There are plenty of websites like amazon, ebay, newegg, tigerdirect, and radioshack that offer great gifts and great holiday discounts.
Could your dad be the "movie buff"? Does he know all the good movies? Can he tell you what will be a box office smash hit before the first preview runs? Mine could. A lot of dads fall into what I call the TV / Movie expert category. They know all the cool shows and always seem to find the greatest movies. So why not a marathon for Father's day? Close the blinds, fire up the dvd player, and have an all day event? Get the popcorn ready and a collection of daddy's favorite series, or all time favorite actors best films.
For gift ideas ask those closest to him what movies or shows he really likes, but doesn't own. (or go through his collection when he's not around) If he seems to have it all and you still don't know what to do, get him a membership to one of the great programs or retailers out their like Columbia house, Amazon, Net flicks, Blockbuster, or even Barnes and Nobel.
No matter which kind of dad you have, no matter what kind of budget you are working with, or how you chose to celebrate; remember this. The best gift you can give your dad is your time and company. Most dad's want nothing more than to know they are loved and appreciated. Spend some time, and enjoy your dad! That in it's self would feel like a party to him!
