Or, a modern baby shower might just have a modern decoration theme, but follow all of the usual baby shower standards. Have a green themed shower where guests are invited online to save paper, and all paper products used at the shower are recycled. Encourage the mom-to-be to register for organic or environmentally friendly presents to complete the eco-friendly theme. Instead of the usual baby shower playing games, guests could create scrapbook pages or decorate onesies for the mom to be.
The usual baby blue and girly pink colors seen at most baby showers can also be replaced for a modern feel. For example, use fuchsia and lime green for a girl or brown and Aqua blue and lime green for a boy. Make the colors lively and use them to set a fun atmosphere.
If opting for a co-ed guest list, make sure the invitations are clearly addressed to the men and women at each household. Also, make sure to spread the word so everyone feels comfortable coming the day of. Set the tone with the invitations, make sure they're male friendly, which means not overly cutesy. Also, think about the male guests when planning shower favors. Or, skip traditional favors all together and make a donation to charity instead. Plan games for the dad to be and male guests or games everyone can play together.
To make the baby shower uber modern, consider being kid-friendly and making the event a family affair. Plan a kids area full of games, crafts, and area to run around all their own.
Another 21st Century take on the baby shower is to hold the shower in non-traditional places. Many 3D/4D ultrasound businesses offer baby shower packages. If family and friends are scattered across the United States or even the globe, consider a Web shower, where the mom-to-be unwraps presents in front of a web camera and guests interact through instant messaging. Spas are another popular modern place to hold a baby shower. Skip all of the usual baby games and decorations for a day of relaxation.
All rules get thrown out the window when throwing a modern baby shower. Make the day comfortable and fun for the expecting mom and guests.
