Throwing a Last Minute 4th of July Party

Throwing a 4th of July party can be a great way to gather family and friends for some good summer fun. Even parties that are planned at the last minute can be extremely fun, both in the planning and partying. It might seem like a bit of a hassle at first, but a last minute July 4th party is not impossible. Here are some easy to master tips for planning a last minute 4th of July party.

1. Decorations are important at any party, and July 4th parties are no different. You may not be able to "go all out" for last minute preparations, but that does not mean that the occasion is hopeless. First off, try to find some nice red or blue table covers. Most party stores and department stores will sell cheap table covers in different colors. If the stores are out of table covers, consider buying red or blue fabric from the arts and crafts department. The unhemmed edge can be folded or taped under the table. Of course, buying fabric is a last resort for the last minute party, but the fabric can be washed and used again next year.

2. The dinnerware is very important at July 4th parties, which almost certainly involve lots of food. Department stores and party supply stores will sell red, white, and blue disposable plates, cups, and utensils just for these types of occasions.

3. It is very important to keep guests hydrated. If sodas are on the menu, be sure to get a clear soda and a dark soda. That should suit the taste of most guests. If alcohol is on the menu, be sure to provide variety and designated drivers.

4. Food is a must for this type of party. Invite your guests to bring a little something to share with everyone else, and that will take some of the burden of preparing food off of the host. Since the party is so last minute, keep the food simple. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and salsa, and other easy party foods. Consider buying or baking a cake for desert. If there is time, consider baking an All-American Apple Pie for the 4th of July party.

5. If fireworks are legal in your area (and you are completely aware of firework safety and operation), definitely consider buying fireworks for you and your guests to set off as it gets dark. In areas where fireworks are legal, the fireworks outlets will be open to the very last minute for July 4th, so getting fireworks on time should not be a huge struggle. This would also be an appropriate time to teach children about fire safety

6. If fireworks are not legal in your area, consider setting up board games or other competitive but confined sports indoors. Perhaps ask guests to bring a favorite board game or activity. If room is available outdoors, slightly rowdier sports can replace board games.

Setting up the perfect last minute July 4th party is not impossible. It just takes quick planning and a little bit of money to have create a fun-filled day for guests and host alike.
