These and many more symptoms can be linked to hypothyroidism, or an underactive thyroid. A condition is rarely ever diagnosed until recently. The thyroid is a gland that produces hormones that help regulate energy levels and metabolism.
Thyroid Condition and Weight Gain
Just because you have weight gain does not mean that you have a thyroid condition. However, for many women who do struggle with their weight and have battle it for most of their lives, hypothyroidism could be the link. Women should ask that their thyroid be tested by a through checkup and simple blood work.
If hypothyroidism is diagnosed, then doctors will usually prescribe medication to control and balance out your thyroid. However, if you would like to balance out your thyroid naturally, we have three tips to help you succeed.
1. Control Your Thyroid With Nutrition
If you have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, you should avoid sugar, dairy products, caffeine, alcohol, and wheat. You should also avoid raw cabbage, kale, spinach, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and broccoli as they can contribute to your thyroid imbalance.
However, adding essential fatty acids such as those found in salmon, flax seed, walnuts, and almonds could help to regulate thyroid hormone production. Adding zinc, calcium, magnesium and vitamin B can also help your body's metabolic functions associated with the thyroid.
2. Control Your Thyroid With Exercise
Doctors have found that exercise is very important to women who suffer with hypothyroidism. Exercising stimulates the thyroid gland and increases its sensitivity. When exercising, your heart rate will speed up your metabolism, which in turn will help balance your hormones.
3. Controlling Your Thyroid With Alternative Therapies
Other ways to balance out your hormonal levels affected by your thyroid is by chiropractic or acupuncture therapies. A chiropractic therapy for example can remove any interference that the brain has with the thyroid gland. This could increase the nerve energy and help to maintain a healthy thyroid gland.
