Tide with a Touch of Downy Powdered Laundry Detergent Product Review

Too Many Suds and Not Enough Softness

Kassidy Emmerson
To judge a product fairly, it's best to use it for awhile first. I purchased a box of Tide With a Touch of Downy powdered laundry detergent in the late summer. It's now almost Christmas, and I have compiled pros and cons about it. Before I bought this product, I was using both Tide liquid and the Downy liquid. What drew me to Tide With a Touch of Downy is the convenience of buying just one product to wash and soften our laundry. Read this informative Tide With a Touch of Downy powdered laundry detergent product review and find out all about it.

Price and Availability
I purchased Tide With a Touch of Downy powdered laundry detergent at WalMart. A 9.12-pound box cost around $10.00. The price is pretty reasonable considering you're buying laundry detergent and softener together. A 9.12- pound box cleans and softens 63 loads of wash.

Product Description
Tide With a Touch of Downy powdered laundry detergent is available in two scents, Clean Breeze and April Fresh. I bought the former. According to the Tide website, this product contains "surfactants". Surfactants are common in laundry detergents. They "reduce the surface tension of a liquid" and "allow it to foam or penetrate solids", according to The Free Dictionary. Tide With a Touch of Downy powdered laundry detergent also contains "special ingredients that provide softening benefits throughout the wash."

Usage Results
When I first tried Tide With a Touch of Downy powdered laundry detergent last summer, it seemed to clean our clothes fine. The first con I noticed, though, was our laundry wasn't as soft as it was when I used Tide and Downy separately. Second, I could smell the nice, fresh Clean Breeze scent when I added the laundry detergent to the washing machine. By the time the clothes came out of the dryer, I could barely detect the scent.

Tide With a Touch of Downy powdered laundry detergent comes with a plastic measuring cup. Even though I adjust the amount of powder to the size of each load, this product produces massive amounts of suds. I can't detect any suds left on the laundry when the machine is done. Still, since I have sensitive skin, I've run my personal laundry through a second rinse cycle just to make sure all the suds are gone.

Another con of Tide With a Touch of Downy powdered laundry detergent is, now that it's wintertime and the indoor air is drier, I could light New York City with the static electricity in our laundry. It's terrible. I often have to pick our clothes apart and shake them out before I can fold them now.

Conclusion
Tide With a Touch of Downy powdered laundry detergent is a good product idea, but it falls short in performance. Lack of softness and scent, too many suds and the static electricity make me give this product two thumbs down. I'm going back to using Tide and Downy separately. That's what works for me.
