I was going through the December 21, 2009, issue of Fortune magazine when an ad on page 49 got my eye. It was Tiger Woods on a golf course and his ball had come to rest in the dirt beside a large rock next to a body of water. It was obviously an almost impossible shot and in white letters above this scenario it said "It's what you do next that counts." I would assume that this is the last Accenture ad you will ever see Tiger Woods appear in. I could not help but notice how prophetic this ad was. The golf shot portrayed in this ad can easily be compared to the situation Tiger Woods now finds himself facing. The statement "It's what you do next that counts" is even more prophetic. I have already documented in earlier blogs how badly Tiger has struggled coming out of the gate after this ordeal. In my opinion the guy has made bad move after bad move in light of recent revelations about his life. The fortunate thing for Tiger is that "next" is never set in stone or finalized. There is always going to be a "next," whether it be regarding his marriage, personal life, professional golf career, put whatever you want here. We can only hope at some point that "next" will be a move in the right direction.
