Tiger Woods - Another Sponsor Bails on the Beleaguered Pro-golfer

Fifth Major Sponsor Deserts Tiger Woods - Golf Digest Ends 13 Year Sponsorship Deal

Far reaching effects of mistress affairs for former World No. 1 Golfer Tiger Woods

If ever there was a life lesson to be learned, it would have to be "don't take on a mistress rampage when you are the World No. 1 at anything. Tiger Woods could well be regretting his past escapades with multiple mistresses - the scandal that cost him is marriage and, so far, his credibility as a top professional golfer.

This week, Tiger Woods and Golf Digest announced the end of the golf star's 13-year relationship with the magazine. This has been the pro golfer's second longest sponsorship deal. The 14 time major champion will present his final column for the golfing magazine in their February 2011 issue.

"Golf Digest and Tiger Woods have mutually agreed to stop his monthly by-lined articles," Golf Digest editor in chief Jerry Tarde said in a statement. "We appreciate the insights Tiger has provided to our readers."

Tiger's response -

"I enjoyed my relationship with Golf Digest but we have decided it's now time for a break," Woods said in a statement released by the magazine. "I wish my friends at Golf Digest continued success."

Three other major sponsors, Gatorade, AT&T and Accenture had already ended sponsor ties with Woods. Only Nike stayed with him through his winless 2010 season.

Gillette recently terminated their endorsement deal with Woods, so this means five major sponsors have deserted the beleaguered golfer since the ill-fated scandal that emerged in late 2009.

Video game save

On a slightly higher note, Augusta National Golf Club announced the home course of the Masters would be featured on a video game for the first time on Woods' 2011 EA Sports release in March. The video game company and Nike, the first sponsor to sign a deal with Woods when he turned professional in 1996, were the main backers to remain with him as the sex scandal unfolded over the past 13 months.

Where now for Tiger Woods?

It now remains to be seen whether Woods can re-ignite his golfing career to go on to outdo Jack Nicklaus who established the all-time record of 18 majors. Woods has won 14 and would have to stage and amazing come-back to break this record.

It is obvious that the psychological effects of Tiger's downfall are preventing him from rising to his former superior status in pro-golf. Only time will tell if he stays in the rough or gets out of the sand trap to win more majors in what used to be one of the greatest sporting careers of all time.

Role models like Woods and Michael Vick should have more sense. Great report on this, Susie!

I am quite certain that there is a universe of products that would LOVE to have Tiger's endorsement, but he's too good for them. You know, acting classes and condoms, for examples.

There is no way I feel sorry for him. He did it to himself and he has no one to blame.

I don't like what he did. That was reprehensible, but you have to feel a little badly for him.

    Excellent article as always. Thanks!

I know he brought this all on himself, but I can't help but feel sorry for him.
So few people can deal with fame and stay strong. So sad for his wife and kids, too. I hope he has learned his lesson well and can make a comeback.
