Tiger Woods' Car Accident

For Once, I Actually Care

Let me start by saying that I am not a fan of celebrity news. You can actually feel the narcissism that celebrities have and it is just amplified when the news cameras are following them. I try to stay away from it whenever possible. That having been said, I have anxiously following such news this weekend after the news of Tiger Wood's car accident surfaced Friday morning.

The world (and myself in particular) have become numb to the antics that celebrities seem to be caught up in every week. For the most part it seems that celebrities find it impossible to live normal, uneventful lives. One of the great exceptions has been Tiger Woods. If there is any question to my allegiance to Tiger Woods as a fan, please read this story. I have been a fan of Tiger Woods since he came onto the tour. I have respected the way that he has carried himself despite all of the pressures that have been put on him. I think that he has always been a great role model for youth.

I have been riveted to the news of Tiger's accident for very different reasons than why people are usually so interested in celebrity news. Usually we like to see celebrities fail. Instead, right now, I am afraid of seeing Tiger fail. I don't quite understand the reasoning, but I honestly worry for him. I cannot think of another famous person that I would care about whether or not they had done something wrong. In baseball we hear all the time about players taking performance enhancing drugs... doesn't faze me. We constantly hear about celebrities caught cheating... don't really care. However, if Tiger Woods was caught cheating, using performance enhancing drugs, or involved in some other questionable moral situation I would really be hurt.

If, as some reports claim, he is a victim of domestic violence, then I am very sad. I don't know their home circumstances, obviously and for all I know, Tiger could be a terrible husband. I do know, however, that Tiger portrays himself as a more than respectable husband and father and does not deserve to be abused in any way. The same goes for his wife. I know even less about her, but the family as a whole keeps themselves with an absolutely respectable air.

I would not be surprised if I speak for many other people when I say that I more than appreciate Tiger's desire for privacy in this matter. I would not want the entire world knowing about embarrassing times in my life (I have many). However, until we learned what really happened, I think we will assume the worst and there will always be a lingering doubt whether or not Tiger has some skeletons in his closet.

In closing, in case Tiger Woods ever reads this article... I hope all is well. For what it matters from an unknown person....I'm rooting for you.
