Tiger Woods Chase of Jack Nicklaus in 2009

Woods Comes in Fourth at Quail Hollow

Tiger Woods - 2009. In case you've been under a rock the last decade, Tiger Woods is the best golfer on the PGA tour and the number 1 ranked golfer in the world. After having his 2008 season cut short due to ACL reconstructive surgery, Tiger has shown little signs of having much rust from the significant layoff. He has won 14 PGA Major Golf Championships (second to Jack Nicklaus) and 66 PGA tour events (Third all Time). He's also the youngest and faster golfer to win 50 tournaments on the PGA Tour. In his most recent tournament at the Quail Hollow invitational, Tiger came close to winning his second event of the year only to fall back on the final day to fourth place. The following is a synopsis of Tiger Wood's performance during his 2009 comeback.

2009 Tiger Woods Tournament Performance

2009 Quail Hollow Invitational - 4th Place

Tiger Woods started off the Quail Hollow tournament on fire! He carded a field-leading 65 in the first round to lead all golfers. He cooled off a bit in round 2 with an even par 72 to sit one shot back of co-leaders Retief Goosen and Bubba Watson. Round 3 would see Tiger pick it up a bit, carding a 2 under 70 to sit two shots back of Zach Jonhson going into the final round. Alas, though it was not meant to be a classic Tiger comeback in the final round with Woods shooting par and losing by two strokes to O'Hair.

2009 Masters - 6th Place

Tiger started off the first round of the Masters on fire, but couldn't seem to drop many of the putts that we've become accustomed to him sinking and had to settle for an opening round 70. The second round found Tiger sitting seven strokes back of the leaders heading into round three. Woods would finish round three with a 70 and 4 under par for the tournament to this point still significantly behind the leaders. The final round would see Tiger and Phil Mickelson paired up for one of the most exciting rounds seen at the Masters. Both players would fall a bit short of the leaders, finishing at 8 under, four behind the winners.

2009 Bay Hill - 1st Place

Tiger Woods started out the first day putting well and sitting only three strokes back after the first round. Round 2 found tiger chipping in twice to help compensate for several un-Tiger-like mishits during the round. Tiger then pulled off a remarkable comeback on the final day of the tournament and birdied the final hole to defeat O'Hair for his sixth career Bay Hill title.

2009 Doral - 9th Place

Tiger's first stroke play event in 9 months. Woods started out ok in round 1 carding a 72 followed by a poor 2nd round to sit 10 strokes behind Phil Mickelson. He came back strongly in round 3 carding a 68 and had a solid fourth round to finish tied for 9th place.

2009 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship

Tiger Woods started out the first round by defeating Brendan Jones 3 and 2 in his first round of competitive golf since June 2008. Unfortunately, he could not hold up in round two and lost to Tim Clark 4 and 2. Clark had to score 6 birdies in order to send Woods home early.
