While responsible people and journalists would wait to hear the fact before jumping to any conclusions, even the most skeptical among us have to wonder what connection the report of the alleged Woods' affair might have to Woods' early morning car accident on Friday, November 27.
If the reports of Tiger Woods affair with Rachel Uchitel are wholly untrue, the National Enquirer better ready itself for the mother of all lawsuits. If the reports of Tiger Woods' affair with Rachel Uchitel are substantially true, one has to wonder what will become of Tiger Woods.
Now, an affair in and of itself is generally not enough to derail a typical athlete. But in some ways, the pinnacle of success that Tiger Woods has reached makes him more vulnerable, not less so, to off the course distractions and potential fall from grace.
While 100th ranked golfer in the world, for example, could have an affair with Rachel Uchitel or anybody else, and hardly anybody but his family would likely care, Tiger Woods is bigger than the sport of golf and has become one of the biggest product endorsers, if not the biggest endorser, of all time.
What's further concerning is the car accident. As a big time Tiger Woods' fan, I would first like to believe that the rumors of the affair are not true at all...and, frankly, if they are true then they are part of some sort of arrangement perhaps that Tiger Woods has with his wife. While to most of us this sort of arrangement would seem hard to fathom, it is probably not that uncommon among the ranks of elite professional athletes.
But to have this report of a Tiger Woods affair come out less than two days before a mysterious car accident...this seems to be either a very big coincidence or a very concerning development. Reportedly, Tiger Woods was backing out of his driveway at 2:30AM on Friday, November 27. Somehow in doing so he backed into a fire hydrant and then into a tree in a neighbor's yard. That caused lacerations to his face, for which he was taken by ambulance to a hospital and released.
I have a few questions here. First of all, what was Tiger Woods doing leaving his house at 2:30AM? Not that there is anything inherently wrong with leaving the house at that hour. But generally nothing good happens after midnight, as the old saying goes. Secondly, how exactly does somebody back out of a driveway fast enough to first hit a fire hydrant and then hit a tree? How is that possible? Finally, the reports are that Tiger Woods' airbags didn't activate...usually a sign that somebody is not traveling fast enough for them to do so. And through all this, Tiger Woods ended up with lacerations on his face somehow?
I hope there is a clear explanation for all of this, as Tiger Woods is one of my personal favorites of all time and until this moment has been an excellent role model for youngsters. If Woods did have an affair with Rachel Uchitel, I don't think that makes him necessarily a bad person, though I would be deeply disappointed. If the car accident subsequent to the reports of his affair cannot be reasonably explained, we all have to wonder what's really going on in Tiger Woods' life.
