Tiger Woods Divorce Update: Devon James' Paternity Claim Dismissed by Courts

Tiger & Elin Divorce Settlement Reach Amid Woods Paternity Claim Thrown Out of Court

In June 2010, shocking news alleging pro-golf hero Tiger Woods fathered a child outside of his troubled marriage to Elin Nordegren Woods hit the world and media like a bolt of lightening. Devon James made the startling claim that she gave birth to a child after a brief affair with Woods nine years ago. Reports of the claims made by James were published without paternity test confirmation. Immediately after the claims, the media published the photos of James and her 9-year old son she claimed Woods fathered prior to his nuptials to Elin.

The startling revelation came amid Woods and Elin working through the ending of the six year marriage that was increasingly becoming a bitter divorce. Woods, who already has two young children with his estranged wife, was quick to deny the claims. Initially, there were no official denial statements made against James by the Woods' camp. Just an acknowledgement that the claims were not substantiated. In spite of the denials from Woods, James was convinced of her paternity case and made a claim for paternity through the courts.

James reportedly filed court papers alleging that her son was fathered by Woods in June 2010. Thereafter, DNA testing from another suspected partner of James proved to be a positive match. In spite of the fact that paternity of her child was already established, James was determined to forge ahead with her claim against Woods. By July, Woods' team came forward with demands that the court dismiss the case on the grounds that paternity testing confirmed another male fathered the child in question.

On August 17, the court in Manatee County, Florida agreed with Woods and dismissed the paternity claim for good. From the very beginnings of the claim made by James,' her mother suggested that the claim was a fabrication. Sandra Jane Brinling suspected that her daughter's claim was a scheme solely "to make money." Now the estranged mother of James says the claim is "an abuse of the justice system" and wants her daughter jailed.

Dismissal of the case is a welcomed outcome for the star golfer who has entered the final stages of his divorce from Elin. As part of the divorce agreement Elin will retain full custody of the estranged couples' two children, the family home and pocket $100 million in divorce settlement payment. The divorce agreement forbids Elin from ever speaking publicly about Woods or their encumbered marriage. If at any stage Elin breaches the agreement clause she forfeits the substantial and historical divorce settlement payment. See pictures of Elin and Tiger Woods here.
