Tiger Woods Interview: ESPN and Golf Channel Get First Questions

Jennifer Waite
Tiger Woods opened himself up to interviewers' questions Sunday at an exclusive golf club near his Florida home, but just how open was Tiger this time? We all recall the no-questions-please style statement Woods gave last month, so many wondered if the Tiger Woods ESPN interview and Golf Channel interview would be any different. Did Tiger Woods answer any specific questions during these new interviews regarding the many women who claim to have been in sexual relationships with him? Did Woods reveal any details of the sex scandal, his in-patient treatment for sexual addiction or his reported make-up with wife Elin? (Read the full Tiger Woods ESPN interview transcript here!)

Well before the reports of countless love affairs and rumors of cheating began, Tiger Woods was fairly private. Is it any shock that Tiger clammed up even tighter when he got caught up in the hot mess that took place outside his home on Nov. 25, 2009 and fell so quickly from grace?

When interviewers for ESPN and The Golf Channel, who were restricted to five-minutes of face time each, asked the tough questions on Sunday, Tiger Woods remained tight-lipped. At one point in the interview with ESPN's Tom Rinaldi, Rinaldi asked Tiger if he would provide any details on what happened the night of the car accident last Thanksgiving. Tiger replied in a very rehearsed manner, stating, "It's all in the police reports. Beyond that, everything is between Elin and myself. That's private." Rinaldi attempted to push the issue, asking why Woods lost control of his vehicle, but Woods stayed focused, simply repeating his previous remark on the subject, as if to say "Move on."

If Tiger Woods wants to remain to private, Rinaldi asked, why did he issue such a public apology before reporters last month? Woods replied, "I owe a lot of people an apology...I hurt a lot of people. Not just my wife." Woods alluded to fans and family members who have suffered, or suffered a loss of an image they had of him, due to what he had "done".

What exactly Tiger had done, however, seemed to be off limits. Tiger Woods deflected questions about what sort of "treatment" he entered into following the sex addiction allegations, and Woods called it "a private matter".

When Rinaldi asked Woods to account for any specific "transgressions", the golf pro deftly admitted guilt without confessing sins. "Well, just one is... is enough. And obviously, that wasn't the case. I've made my mistakes. And as I've said, I've hurt so many people, and have so many people I have to make an amends to."
