Tiger Woods Press Conference

The Tiger Woods press conference was everything that was to be expected and perhaps a couple things that were not. The rules were set out ahead of time. There would be no question and answer period at the Tiger Woods press conference and there seems to have been good reason for that.

As Tiger Woods made plain and obvious in his statement, many untruths had been spoken about him. He was not prepared to give any more than what he had carefully prepared. What was shared was very much what many would have expected.

The golf phenom apologized for his behavior. However, he would not be specific as to what that behavior had been. He made it clear that he was receiving help without going to much in detail as to what that meant. All in all, it was a carefully worded statement and was made on his terms.

What became clear during the statement was that he felt the need to apologize first and foremost to his family. Specifically, his wife, children and mother. In making that particular apology and hint of anger and frustration crept out of his voice. It would appear it was not just his actions that caused him to be so apologetic but rather the consequences of those actions.

The Tiger Woods press conference was just as much a chastising of the media scrutiny of his family as it was a coming clean for the super star. Woods requested, in as stern a fashion as he could muster, that the media leave his family alone. He specifically noted instances of press stalking his children and mother and it became evident that this may have troubled him more than anything.

In addition to his own children, the Tiger Woods press conference had a moment of reflection by Woods to apologize to all the the kids who look up to him. He spoke of how little the accomplishments on the golf course mean in comparison to an individual's character and although he appeared somewhat rigid, prepared and robotic in his delivery, he still seemed sincere.

However, the Tiger Woods press conference at times seemed to be more about press than the man himself. He mentioned his professional relationships in his apologies and asked those who had believed in him in the past, to believe in him once again. It seemed with statements like those that he was more concerned with repairing damage done to the Tiger Woods brand, more than the harm experienced by his family.

Truth be told, he is free to do whatever he wants. Certainly there will be many judgments passed as to whether he was sincere and in what regard he truly holds his fan base. The man doesn't actually owe the public anything. He hits a golf ball and he hits it well. If corporate America flock to him because of it, then they rise and fall with that decision. At the end of the day he is only a man who doesn't owe them anything. They only came to him because of the revenue they believed they could earn off his back.

If Tiger Woods decides never to hit a golf ball again, that would be his decision to make and although many fans undoubtedly would be sad about that decision they would get over it. The same way they will get over this story. It is just a story and most won't care about it in due time. In the end, this is just as Woods said himself, between a husband and his wife.
