Tiger Woods: Taking Back the Masters in 2007?

Henry Lamb
Born in 1975, Tiger Woods has a history of achievements as an American professional golfer that would break a few records itself. Ranked as the number 1 golfer, Woods was the highest paid golfer in 2005 and has more wins on the PGA Tour than any other player that still plays professionally. Woods is a multiracial player of African-American and Asian descent, and is described as the player who has brought newfound interest in the game of golf particularly to the youth of America.

Tiger Woods holds 4 wins in the US Masters Tournament for the years 1997, 2001, 2002, and 2005. However, this was denied him in 2006 as he was beaten out by fellow professional golfer Phil Mickelson. If he had won, Woods would have been the only player to hold 5 consecutive wins of the The US Masters Tournament. It is the earliest held and yearly professional golf tournament, usually contested in the month of April.

Woods also had his fair share of breaking records at The Masters. In 1997, he broke the Tournament four-day scoring card record that had been pretty much solid for the last 32 years. In 2001, he won his fourth consecutive professional major tournament. In 2002, he became only the third player ever to win consecutive Masters Titles. In 2005, he also became only the third person to ever win at least 4 of the Masters Tournaments.

In 2007, Woods vows to take the challenge and play for the championship yet again. As a two-time defending champion who lost the title in 2006, he will try to pick up where he left off. Current Masters Title holder Mickelson will have a lot to go up against once Tiger Woods gets back on his streak. Tiger Woods is known to be difficult to stop once on a winning run. Mickelson was quoted as saying, "He's [referring to Tiger] on a remarkable tear. When he gets on runs like this, it's very difficult to stop him."

Tiger Woods will pick up as he launches his next season in professional golf at the $5.2 million Buick Invitational. Prior to this, he won six US PGA Tours and vows to keep the momentum going especially for the US Masters Tournament 2007. The Masters Tournament this year at the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia will be contested on April 2 to 8. 100 players have been invited as guests to the tournament.
