Tiger Woods Videotape, Hospital Records Sought as Speculation Flies on Twitter, Elsewhere

Does Tiger Woods Rival Jon Gosselin in Bad PR at This Point?

Jan Corn
Tiger Woods gets in a car accident and suddenly the rumors fly. Speculation abounds about a mistress, an angry wife and other reasons why he might have lost control of his car. Within minutes of writing those two sentences, there were 246 Twitters about Tiger Woods (many of them as mean-spirited as those directed again Jon Gosselin) and, in the last few seconds, another 90 appeared. Why are people so intrigued by a relatively minor car accident and Woods' refusal to discuss it?

Tiger Woods Crash Scene Photos Released

At this point, the Tiger Woods crash scene photos have been released and damage to the car looks significant. Even more significant? With or without Woods' cooperation, police seem determined to investigate Tiger Woods' single vehicle car crash even though Woods had declared this a private matter. He had also left himself open to speculation by noting that he is human and not perfect. Still to be determined? What caused the accident, any factors leading up to it (including domestic issues) and an attempt to find the truth behind the whole situation. So far, Woods has canceled three interviews with the police. Why? This may not be a great PR move.

Police Seeking Hospital Report For Tiger Woods?

It is surprising that Tiger Woods isn't talking to the police. Based on rumors and speculation flying on Twitter and other sites, this tends to make the public suspicious. Also, since Woods was treated at a hospital, there could be eventual legal ramifications if police get the hospital report they are allegedly seeking. The hospital report could indicate whether the injuries that Woods suffered were the result of possible domestic abuse or a car accident.

While it is not impossible for a car accident to result in facial and other lacerations without blood getting on parts of the car, it is highly unusual. Another reason hospital records could be sought could be to determine if Woods had high levels of prescription medication or other drugs in his system. At this point, there is no proof of that and the legalities affecting that are still to be determined - if the records can be obtained.

Another update? I look up and see 586 Twitters at this point in writing the story, with folks speculating about cheating and why Woods refused to talk to police for yet a third time. Why schedule interviews and then cancel them? Which brings up...

Tiger Woods Security Cameras and Videotape May Provide Clues to Accident

Because of his high profile image, Tiger Wood has a home protected by security cameras. If the police can get a warrant for the videotapes, there may be more evidence about what caused the accident and perhaps even what happened near or inside the home before the accident. Of course, that would depend on what is still on those videotapes when or if police get them.

Tiger Wood Public Statement May Raise Suspicions

In a very short public Statement, Woods acknowledged that he'd had a single-car accident. He took complete responsibility for the accident. So far, so good. Then the made this curious addition: "I"m human and I'm not perfect." With no more specific info than that, that one sentence was enough to raise speculation yet again and spread rumors about Tiger Woods -from cheating to drug use. If he has nothing to hide, seems like Tiger Woods would do more to stop the rumors by simply meeting with the police and answering questions. Otherwise, the talk is likely to continue and Woods is likely to dislike this public attention, so different from the praise he gets for his golf performances. If Twitter is any indication, the story - and attention on Tiger Woods - isn't dying down by his refusal to talk.

Another 574 Twitters and counting....

Wow. What has Tiger Woods gotten himself into?!?!

i think this whole thing is funny personally. If me or my husband told police investigators "we don't want to talk about the accident, its a private matter" cuffs would be slapped on us for obstruction of justice. if we slammed our car into a fire hydrant and then a tree, questions would be asked and answers expected. Tiger Woods seems to think he is above the law and that is one thing that irritates me the most about celebrities.

So many questions... of course, human and not perfect could simply refer to "I ran my car out of the road" too. Well handled.
