TigerDirect Donating to Susan G. Komen for the Cure Fund

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure fund began with a promise from one sister to another, Nancy G. Brinker told her dying sister Susan G. Komen that she would find a way to aid in the fight for stopping the devastating illness called breast cancer. The foundation began in 1982 starting an international movement and heightened breast cancer awareness. The Susan G. Komen foundation has invested almost $1 billion for the battle against breast cancer thanks to such events as the Komen Race for the Cure. There is a vast network of breast cancer survivors and activists helping to encourage quality care for all and further research into finding a cure for breast cancer.

According to statistics at www.matsmatsmats.com/yoga/breast-cancer-statistics.html, it was projected that nearly 40,500 women would die from breast cancer in 2007, which is the most common form among women. Breast cancer is not isolated to females however, and it was also projected that approximately 450 men would perish of the disease that same year. Following lung cancer, breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women.

Thanks to the Komen fund, survivors, activists, and researchers more people are aware of the devastating affects of this cancer. Studies have shown that leading a healthy lifestyle with healthy activity, weight, and diet along with annual mammograms and continual self exams aid in early detection and prevention. In 2003 The National Cancer Institute estimated that around 2.3 million women with a past of breast cancer were either cancer free or winning the battle against it.

The support and donations of individuals and companies whether large or small makes the fight possible. One such company is TigerDirect, they have pledged to donate $100,000 to the Susan G. Komen fund. Most know this company as an online retailer of consumer electronics and computer equipment. They also are taking donations through their website for anywhere from $1 to $20. To find out more information about what TigerDirect is doing through their "Pink Friday" program, or to donate in order to help end breast cancer go to www.tigerdirect.com/sectors/pinkCure/main.asp.

You can also spread the word about what they are doing through the "send to a friend" button. You can donate directly to the Komen foundation by going to cms.komen.org/komen/index.htm, as well as find out more information about breast cancer. They offer up promise rings, bracelets and more that you can purchase to show your support and help fight against cancer.

Among African American women alone 5,830 deaths occurred in 2007 according to the Komen website. No matter what your ethnic background, this deadly disease needs to be stopped. Donating isn't the only way to help to fight breast cancer, there are many ways you can help to find a cure. Starting a breast cancer awareness group or survivor group in your area, starting a fund to donate to the Komen foundation, or even simply handing out flyers about the Komen fund would be a great help to making a brighter future. Now more than ever, women are surviving breast cancer and the efforts of caring individuals is making it possible for our mothers, sisters, nieces, aunts, and grandmothers to live long, healthy, happy lives.
