Tightwad Tips - Getting Cloth Diapers Cheap

Malcolm Tatum
If you've decided that cloth diapers are the way to go, but are concerned about the expense, take heart. There are several ways to get enough diapers to see you and your child all the way through potty training.

Step 1

Spread the word. Let loved ones know that you plan on using cloth diapers once your bundle of joy is born. Instead of getting a lot of expensive clothes that your child will probably never be able to wear, many of your friends and family will be happy to purchase the diapers you want as a shower gift.

Step 2

Make the rounds at yard sales. Just like many other items, you can get cloth diapers that are in excellent condition, but cost a fraction of what you would pay for new ones.

Step 3

Contact the local diaper services. In many cases, they will have diapers that are about to be "retired" because the edges are beginning to fray a bit. You can purchase these cheaply, often by the pound rather than by the diaper. Those slightly frayed edges will be barely noticeable, especially when your baby begins to get the hang of eating solid foods and you are changing them more frequently.

Step 4

Arrange a swap. There are a number of web sites where people can swap items they no longer need for something they can use. Some of those treasures collecting dust in the garage or the back of the closet may be just what someone with a supply of used diapers that are in excellent condition.

Whether you want to use cloth diapers as a way of running a green household, don't like the idea of disposables next to your baby's skin, or just need to save some money, finding the type of diapers you want for a price you can afford is easier than you think. With a little effort and ingenuity, you can have access to plenty of diapers while still being kind to your budget.
