Tijuana Flats in Winter Haven, Florida: A Restuarant Review

People at my work have raved about a local restaurant called, Tijuana Flats, located on Cypress Gardens Boulevard in Winter Haven, Florida. On a humid Friday evening, I entered Tijuana Flats. A large sign held the menus. And, I, like other customers, browsed the menu while waiting in line and ordered at the counter. I seated myself, and an employee brought my order after about ten minutes.

The appetizer choices include: Chips with either Salsa, Chili Con Queso, or Guacamole. The main courses are priced very inexpensively and include: Churros, Chimichangas, Tacos, Nachos, Quesadillas, Burritos, Tostadas, Salads, Enchiladas, Combos, Flautas, and a Children's Menu. For dessert they offer Churros (lightly fried and sprinkled with sugar). Prices range between $5 - $9.

I ordered the Flautas by recommendation of a local customer that frequents Tijuana Flats at least once a week.
Flautas are lightly fried flour tortillas tightly rolled with your choice of beef, grilled or blackened chicken, steak, or refried or black beans. They are served with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, sour cream, and black olives. Priced at $7.39, they were the perfect choice. Large enough that I brought some home, and delicious enough that I actually ate the left overs.

Tijuana Flats has an "anything goes" approach to food. They recommend you order your meal to be prepared exactly how you like it - giving multiple choices of toppings: Queso, Salsa, or Chipotle Sauce. They offer "Power Lite" choices available for any menu item by using low fat cheese and fat free sour cream. For an extra $1.99 you can choose to "make it a meal" which adds rice, beans, and a soft drink. You can change any menu item with a flour tortilla to a whole wheat tortilla for absolutely nothing extra.

Tijuana Flats also offers a family style menu for larger groups, it starts with a platter of chips with all the fixings and a bottle one of their specialty sauces (which all have incredibly humorous and unique names). The Family Style Menu contains the Burrito Bash - eight burritos with your choice of filling and all the toppings for $39.99, the Taco Bash - eight tacos with your choice of soft or hard shell and filling with all the toppings for $29.99, the Combo Bash - four burritos and four tacos, with your choice of filling and all the toppings for $33.99. For catering they offer a Burrito Trip and a Taco Trip for $7.79 per person. The "trips" include Mexican rice, beans, all the utensils, and plates.

Tijuana Flats certainly has a lot to offer. Fabulous wall murals decorate the restaurant with bright colors adding an inviting appeal to the décor.
