On a recent Friday night in August I was invited to join my boyfriend's father and a few of his friends for dinner at Tijuana's Mexican Kitchen restaurant in Lincoln Park, Michigan a suburb of Detroit. Tijuana's Mexican Kitchen is located at 1679 Dix Highway, Lincoln Park, Michigan 48146.

This was my first visit to Tijuana's and it's safe to say that it more than likely will not be my last. Patrons are served tortilla chips and salsa upon being seated. Personally I prefer my salsa with a little bit of heat behind it. The salsa served with the chips really had no spice to it at all. One of the other diners I was with asked for a spicier salsa, and even that wasn't anything beyond mild. According to the person who ordered the spicier salsa, who dines at Tijuana's once a week the salsa isn't one of the consistent items on the menu.

Mexican cuisine is one of my favorites and I have visited quite a few Mexican restaurants in southeastern Michigan, including a number in southwest Detroit, also known as Mexicantown. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and taste of the food at Tijuana's Mexican Kitchen, considering that the salsa hadn't wowed me.

I chose to order the Chile Relleno, a pablano pepper stuffed with cheese, and topped with your choice of meat. I chose chicken which was a great choice. You can also choose to have ground beef or chunky beef to top your pepper. Rice and refried beans are served along with the Chile Relleno as well as with other entrees.

My boyfriend chose to have two ground beef soft taco's with cheese. He loved them, which is one reason I am sure that we will visit this restaurant again, as I've taken him to other Mexican restaurants where he has ordered taco's and only eaten a half of one.

A couple that was eating with us ordered Super Nachos which are corn tortilla chips covered in refried beans, ground beef, melted cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, and olives. The serving was generous and they had more than enough to take home as leftovers.

My boyfriend's father ordered a combination plate that was served with an enchilada, tostado, and burrito, which he had the waitress choose for him.

We were all very happy with our meals, including our drinks, two of us having ordered Margarita's on the rocks.

So, if you are ever in the downriver area in metro Detroit why not stop by Tijuana's Mexican Kitchen and give them a try, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you find.
