Tila Tequila Dead in False Twitter Update

Robert Dougherty
Tila Tequila was rumored dead last year on MySpace, but Tequila still lived to vamp it up on reality TV another day. Now, Tila Tequila was made to look dead again by another popular Internet toy, this time Twitter. In a very sick case of someone hacking into Tequila's Twitter account, it was made to look like the murderer of Tequila and her dog twitted about them being dead. This is yet another case of a false Internet death, and of how these cool Internet features aren't always used for fun and games.

People read Tila Tequila's Twitters, in the first place, due to her fame on various reality shows, on which she tries to sing and make out with every guy and girl there. For those who hate reality programming, Tequila is likely a symbol as to why they do. But that alone likely wasn't what was behind the Tequila dead rumor.

Her official Twitter page first reported "Tila Tequila is dead." Then, to go into more detail, the supposed killer wrote "I just broke into her house, killed her and her dog. Logged onto Twitter to tell you guys. She was signed on already. Tila Tequila is dead."

No one believes that Tequila is dead, though some do often believe these Internet rumor about a famous name being dead.

Just last week, people had to speculate whether Snoop Dogg's wife, Shante Broadus, was really dead in Internet reports. Broadus's manager had to officially confirm that she wasn't dead before the speculation died away.

The Tequila death rumor is just another chapter in this sick trend, and the second to involve her. Last year, MySpace falsely reported that Tequila was dead, in this case from an overdose.

People were sadly more likely to believe that account of her being dead, than someone killing her and Twittering about it. However, maybe that isn't true, as Twitter has become the new hot weapon of choice on the Internet.

With even politicians using it during a Barack Obama address, are we that far away from the days when killers have their own Twitter account to confess their murders? Someday, a story with that type of plot twist may not be that hard to believe.

Tila Tequila will not let it happen on her watch, however, as she has privatized her Twitter account after these rumors, as further proof that she is still alive.

This trend is disturbing. Nice write-up.
