Tequila, who has since filed a lawsuit against organizers Psychopathic Records , is known for her MTV reality show "A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila" but is now working on a rap career.
A video of Tequila's performance posted on TMZ.com shows her working the mic flanked by bodyguards who pull her out of the way as a concertgoer advances onstage.
In the 12-second-long footage, the crowd lobs several objects but the extent of her injuries is unclear.
After the show, Tequila released pictures that show a number of cuts and bruises all over her face and body.
The four-day festival is an annual event geared toward fans of Detroit metal-rap group Insane Clown Posse, who are dubbed "Juggalos."
ICP headlined the fest but a diverse range of performers including Kottonmouth Kings, Critical Bill, Tech N9ne, Naughty by Nature, Coolio, Tone Loc and Twiztid also hit the stage.
Earlier this week, Psychopathic Records released this statement:
"Although what happened to Tila Tequila at the 11th Annual Gathering of the
Juggalos is extremely unfortunate, Juggalo Gathering, LLC and Insane Clown
Posse are not responsible. Ms. Tequila was made aware, in advance, of her
unpopularity with many Juggalos at the Gathering, but she insisted on
performing. She was even paid in full before her performance, and was told that
she did not have to perform, but if she did decide to perform, she could leave the
stage the minute that she felt uncomfortable. Gathering's head of security told
her that it was unsafe to go on stage, and recommended that she leave the
Gathering grounds. Despite warnings and already being paid without being
required to perform, Ms. Tequila made the decision to go onto the stage and
perform. As soon as her show started the crowd began to boo heavily and throw
garbage. It was immediately obvious that she was not welcome. Her injuries
were only sustained because of her refusal to leave the stage. After several
minutes, she even removed her top, exposing herself, which seemed to mock
and further antagonize the crowd. Finally, Gathering security pulled her off of the
stage. Soon after, she was escorted to her car, and was driven safely off of the
Gathering grounds."
ICP member Violent J also commented on the incident in a blog entry sharing his thoughts about this year's event.
He talked about the incident, saying that he didn't understand the incident even going so far to say that he wished it hadn't happened to her and that they had asked their fans to refrain from throwing anything at her during their own seminar earlier in the day.
He went on to say that "She didn't deserve to be physically hurt. I can understand booing someone you don't like, or don't want to see but why would you make someone a target and try to hurt them?"
However, both ICP members Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope have said that they warned Tequila before she took the stage that her music was not going to go over well and that it was possible that the crowd may react badly.
ICP are well known for their Faygo-throwing shows and many acts in the past have had the bottles thrown at them.
Despite being warned, Tequila still took to the stage and after flashing the crowd vowed not to leave.
