Tim Tebow Wins Heisman Trophy

Tim Tebow of the Florida Gators became the first Sophomore in the history of college football to win the Heisman Trophy on December 8th 2007. Tebow ended up getting 462 first place votes and 1957 points followed by Darren McFadden of the Arkansas Razorbacks with 1703 points followed by Colt Brennan of Hawaii and finishing forth was Chase Daniel of the Missouri Tigers.

Tebow became the first QB to both rush for twenty touchdowns but also pass for twenty in a very difficult Southeastern Conference.

McFadden (my choice) was a stud for an otherwise mediocre team. His performance against LSU, the second ranked team in the nation at the time during the last week of the season was one for the record books where he rushed for three touchdowns and threw for another in a shocking victory on the road. This was the second time that he finished runner up when he finished behind Troy Smith of Ohio State last season.

Brennan of the Hawaii Warriors plays in a spread office in a relatively weak conference. He also being in Hawaii did not get a great deal of exposure because of many of his games were played in the wee hours of the morning in the eastern and central time zones. If you have seen him play, he has a great arm and can make all the throws that you want to see in a potential NFL QB. Hawaii does play in a big bowl game (Sugar against a very good Georgia team) after finishing the season undefeated so we will really see what this guy can do.

Chase Daniel is a gutty, determined kid who really emerged this year leading a Missouri team to a BCS bowl game after losing to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Conference Championship game.

Other notable performers this year were Pat White of West Virginia who may have been invited to attend but a loss in the last game if the season to Pittsburgh ended that and Dennis Dixon of Oregon who was injured late in the year.

Easily the top choice for the Heisman. McFadden had some great games, but he also had some not-so-great games that definitely hurt his stock. Tebow was the most consistent player in college football in the game's toughest conference.

no stat is more overrated than tebow's rushing touchdowns. only 2 of them were more than 10 yards. so that's great that the heisman went to a fullback who can throw the ball.
