Tim Urban earned a top 24 spot only after Chris Golightly was disqualified from the competition. Since then, he has bombed every single performance, and the judges have been more and more harsh as the weeks have passed. Yet he's still on the show, voted back by the public.
Tim shouldn't feel so great about that, though. Turns out VotefortheWorst has taken up Tim's cause, and is encouraging voters to dial in to keep Tim on the show. He's there because he lacks talent.
Think back to Season 6 of American Idol, when Sanjaya Malakar ended up in 7th place. Similarly, Sanjaya performed horribly every time and kept getting voted back on. Also similarly, VotefortheWorst backed him up (along with Mr. Howard Stern) and was the key driving force behind his stay on Idol.
This is the danger of a show that relies on public vote to keep contestants on. Talented performers such as Lilly Scott get voted off, while Tim Urban gets to stay week after week. These voters aren't even tuned into the show - they don't watch the performances, nor are they voting for whose album they would buy like the show intends. Instead, they vote to make a mockery of the show and the premise behind it. Not only are these voters incredibly unethical in their actions, they also must have a lot of free time to burn to vote for a show they don't even watch.
The best that real fans can hope for is that as the number of contestants dwindle, the power of the Worst crowd dwindles as well (and very, very soon). After all, the number of actual Idol fans interested in seeing true talent win is way above the number of the Worst fans; but the question is do the real Idol fans spend as much time voting? The Worst fans obviously have more time to spend constantly texting or calling, so Idol fans may have to put their lives on hold for a day to keep up.
Here's to hoping VotefortheWorst crashes, people stop trying to ruin talent shows so that others will lead as miserable a life as they do, and that the real Idol fans prevail.
Because, really, who wants to watch Tim Urban butcher songs for more than one more week (and that's one too many).

Post a CommentSo Katie D is a fan of one of the American Idol contestants, and their name isn't Tim Urban, and she's using a public forum to whine about how popular he is. Katie D, out of 100,000 people, the producers and judges decided that Tim Urban was one of the chosen few to make the Top 24. Your time would be better spent telling your favorite contestant to step it up if they want to compete with Tim Urban.
Sodas, you know you want to vote for Tim. Think of how boring it will be without him.
Actually I want to add that I don't like the judges, especially Kara being mean to Tim however. I like it when Tim messes with Kara and gets her mad. That's the best part. But other than that, what I said about why Tim is staying is true. He's had maybe one fairly good performance. The rest get about 10 seconds in and then he sings in a stiff, wooden, clumsy way that you would expect if he were singing on a ship. And he's "theatrics" on stage are overly literal and clutzy as well. He looks like something from SNL. THAT is the reason he's not one of the better ones on the show. But again, I do laugh when he gets the best of the judges. That's because the judges are a little too mean.
cont' make them gain interest. Yet 6 months later they've moved on to the next boy sensation.
I think the worst crowd's votes become insignificant nearer to the end when there are millions of votes piled onto the last 4 or 5 constants. But it does make a mess. But in total the biggest amount of votes are controlled by who ever is wliling to vote ALL 2 hours and vote hard. Or 4 hours during the finale. Who has the amount of energy, time? Children between 6 and maybe 18. And the majority are girls since the prices of cell phones have plummeted 4 years ago and text voting is in. That's also a big reason you see Tim Urban sticking around. They get hung up on his smile. And that's also why Tim uses those $20,000 of teeth EVERY SINGLE TIME. He always flashes them because he knows that does it. An 8 year old girl sees that and thinks "oh so cute!". And when Simon bashes Tim (deserved), the young girls want to defend him so they vote out of pity. But re_tards like ones posting about Tim having a career below are quite abundant. Interesting how raging female hormones make
Katie D. Wow! You are ignorant and know nothing about entertainment writing. Different people have different tastes in music. That is why there are so many artists to chose from. Does the world only revolve around your insignificant tastes? Why don't you go back to writing about weight loss and dieting and leave the entertainment writing to someone who knows what the hell they are talking about.
I'm a worster and I love Tim. I do watch American Idol as do most worsters according to their comments. In fact we watch it together. As for Tim being the pick, It doesn't mean he is the worst as in bad. He isn't the actual worst in my opinion. It means he is the worst fit for American Idol. He isn't what they want, they put him through as filler so everyone could point and laugh. Well the joke is on them. Tim is actually good, he sings on key (most of the time) and he has a great outlook. He is marketable if they just open their eyes. I hope his fans (worsters included) can keep him on a few more weeks. And the comment about us having no life, that is so old and tired, Get a new insult. Next time you're lurking over at VFTW read the About Us section and see what it's really all about and stop making assumptions. How on earth could Dave and Prof. Chan write a play by play account of the show if they didn't watch? God, you're dumb.
WOW. I hope you don't consider yourself a real journalist.
Simon picked on Tim from day one, give the guy a break; he was in tune this week when others weren't. I hope he goes far, there is something about him, that smile I think. Crystal will probably win, but this season hasn't been very good.
Tim has NOT bombed every performance! He has a distinct voice and has a great smile and good attitude. Kara is the soul sucker, she is almost as bad a as Paula-making no sense sometimes.
