I, like many others, feel that this has gone on long enough. We did what we set out to do, Iraq no longer wants us there, we need bring our troops home. We have defended our country and shown that we will not tolerate terrorism, we have helped Iraq rebuild as much as we can. If they no longer want our help, we should leave. We would want the same respect if it were us.
The U.S. has spent countless dollars funding this war. Long after we were told that our help was no longer welcome. Those countless dollars could have been used to help our economy, our poor, hungry, and homeless. To help our elderly population who are struggling every day to survive. With the rising cost of living here in our country, how can we remain in another country where we are not wanted any more?
Many of our families suffer every day because they have a loved one overseas. They do not know exactly where they are, when they will talk to them, let alone see them again. Yes, they have pride because of their loved-ones chosen path to protect us, but insurmountable suffering to go along with it. Constantly wondering if they are safe. A lot of you know that feeling very personally. Unfortunately, a lot of you also know how it feels when you find out that your loved one died in the line of duty.
Not only did many of our people die needlessly on 9/11, more and more are dying every day in Iraq needlessly. Several months ago, I watched a news program in which it was said that because of the U.S. being in Iraq, many Iraqis were more afraid of being killed than they were before the war began. At that time it was estimated that the majority of Iraqis did not want the U.S. troops there any more. Can you imagine how they feel now, several months later? Now, they are demanding that we set a date to leave their country for good. I think we need to listen this time. We don't want more blood-shed any more than they do.
I fear if we don't pull our troops out now, we may end up paying the price in the end. Enough lives have been lost already.
I agree that when this all first started, we, as a country needed to react. What happened on 9/11 was a horrible, unnecessary tragedy and loss of many lives. Yes, we needed to stand up for our country and show the world that what happened would not be tolerated or taken sitting down, We did that. Not only did we accomplish what we set out to do, we also helped Iraq begin to rebuild and experience freedom for themselves. We can do no more now, it is time to bring our troops home and stop unnecessary homeland suffering.
